Woman found dead in hotel in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Police are trying to figure how a woman died Monday evening at the Hawthorne Inn and Suites on Baymeadows Road. Someone called 911 about 6 p.m. to report a person in one of the hotel rooms was injured. When officers got there they found a dead woman who had โunknown injuries.โWhile the cause of her death is unclear, investigators said foul play is possible. Officers interviewed people at the scene and are looking for surveillance video. Armed robbery suspect dies after Baymeadows police chase, JSO says
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ One of three men suspected in a reported armed robbery in the Baymeadows neighborhood was found dead in a car following a police chase, the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said. JSO said officers were investigating a reported armed robbery around 4 p.m. on Friday when they saw a car that matched the description of the car involved near Baymeadows Road and Interstate 95. The driver of the car took off when police got behind him, JSO said, and ended up on Baymeadows Way. The third suspect, the driver of the car, was found unresponsive inside the car and later pronounced dead. Flames destroy apartment building under construction on Southside
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A four-story apartment building under construction on Jacksonvilleโs Southside burned to the ground before dawn Sunday morning in a fire that kept the eastbound lanes of Baymeadows Road blocked at Interstate 295 all morning. Flames from the Fusion Apartment at Baymeadows being built along Baymeadows Road East spread to woods but the fire was stopped before it could spread into the neighboring Hampton Park neighborhood. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Chief Keith Powers said 14 engines and seven ladder trucks were needed to battle the three-alarm fire. The only thing left standing by daybreak was the concrete-block stairwell in the center of the building. First thing I said is thatโs the new apartments going up in flames,โ said Wilkes.
Police investigate shooting, car break-ins in Baymeadows
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office is investigating a shooting and several car break-ins nearby in the Baymeadows area. Police said a man was shot about 5 a.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of the Baytree on Baymeadows apartment complex on Old Baymeadows Road and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers also put up crime scene tape Tuesday morning at the Avenues apartments next door, where several car windows were smashed in. People on scene at the Avenues apartments told News4Jax as many as 10 cars in the parking lot had their windows smashed in. Again, police have not confirmed whether thereโs a connection to the smashed in car windows and the shooting that happened next door.

JSO: Divers find body in Baymeadows retention pond
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A body was found in a retention pond in the Baymeadows area Saturday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The pond is located in the Bentley Green apartment complex. Police were dispatched for a possible drowning in the 9500 block of Princeton Square Boulevard at about 3 p.m.A search was underway for several hours. Officials said JSO's dive team later found the victim, who has not been identified, deceased in a body of water. It's unknown what led up to the person being in the water.
Neighbors say someone's ransacking their condo's mailboxes
Someone has been ransacking mailboxes in the Stonebridge Condominiums gated community, leaving people wondering what's happened to their checks, banking information and deliveries. Surveillance video provided by a board member appears to show a capture a woman in the act of tampering with residents' mail. Based on some footage, board members suspect the culprit uses a screwdriver to pry open the containers. Once they're open, there's a gold mine of personal and financial information inside. Images captured in May also show a woman sifting through mailboxes and then get into an SUV parked out front.
