A driver who had struck three pedestrians and then left the scene in the New Town area was later spotted and pursued by police on the Southside before crashing into a light pole at Beach Boulevard and I-295, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Woman killed in crash that blocked I-295 at Town Center Parkway for hours
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A 28-year-old woman was struck and killed early Monday morning after she hit a guardrail along the entrance ramp to southbound Interstate 295 from Town Center Parkway and then got out of her car, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The report said the woman โexited the vehicle and began to stand on passenger sideโ when an SUV traveling up the ramp to southbound I-295 struck the woman and the sedan. The driver of the SUV, a 58-year-old Jacksonville Beach man, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, troopers said. Due to the deadly crash, all southbound lanes of I-295 at Town Center Parkway for more than four hours, causing heavy delays for morning commuters. But they say also this is 3 in the morning and that needs to be taken into account.

Man killed in single-vehicle crash in Jacksonvilleโs Southside
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man died early Friday morning after his SUV left the road and hit a parked vehicle, a utility pole and a tree on Forest Boulevard, off Beach Boulevard near Packard Drive. JSO noted there is a fork in the road at the location where the crash happened. The driver was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Police are investigating if the man fell asleep at the wheel or if drugs and alcohol were involved. Driver dies in wrong-way crash on Beach Boulevard
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man who crashed into a median while driving in the wrong direction on Beach Boulevard near San Pablo Road early Saturday morning has died, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Around 1:40 a.m., a 38-year-old man was driving east in the westbound lanes when he lost control and slammed into a tree located in the median. When News4Jax crews arrived, the sedan was sitting on a tow truck, mangled with shattered windows. Troopers said the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The crash was cleared and all lanes have reopened.
Motorcyclist killed in crash on Atlantic Boulevard at University
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A motorcyclist died Wednesday night in a crash on Atlantic Boulevard at the intersection of University Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office. According to Lt. Charges pending in crash that killed motorcyclist in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A 63-year-old man is facing charges after a crash with a motorcycle on Beach Boulevard Monday afternoon, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. when the 63-year-old was traveling eastbound on Beach Boulevard near Beachwood Boulevard when he improperly changes lanes. The 63-year-oldโs van hit a motorcycle in the left lane, causing the motorcycle to travel off the roadway into the median and collide with several trees. The motorcyclist, a 29-year-old man, was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries. The FHP crash report shows he was wearing a helmet.

Officer suffers minor injuries in overnight crash
The vehicle then accelerated, jumping the curb where it struck the light pole on the north side of Beach Boulevard. No other cars were involved in the crash and the officer was the only one in the vehicle. The officer had minor injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for observation and is expected to be released soon. Crime scene units gathered evidence and JSO Traffic Homicide will conduct a follow up crash investigation.

Jacksonville Beach shootout suspect found not guilty by reason of insanity
A man arrested after a Jacksonville Beach police officer was wounded during a shootout in 2018 was found not guilty by reason of insanity last month, court records show. Jovan Sisljagic was charged with four counts of attempted murder following the shootout along Beach Boulevard in August 2018. Sisljagic received treatment for three gunshot wounds. William Eierman being shot, two police vehicles and several cars in a Waffle House parking lot were hit by gunfire. Officers said he has a history of mental health issues.

Median barrier coming where Hart Expressway merges with Beach Boulevard
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Florida Department of Transportation will be installing a new barrier wall at the eastern end of the Hart Expressway where it merges with Beach Boulevard. Officials said work on approximately 600 feet of a concrete barrier wall in the existing median will begin this week. There are many businesses and schools on either side of Beach Boulevard in the area, including the River City Science Academy. It came after students were seen running in and out of traffic across Beach Boulevard to reach the school. Officials said the project will also include installing new directional signage for both Beach Boulevard and the Hart Expressway.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man is dead after a crash Monday night on Beach Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the driver of a scooter was traveling west on Beach, and the driver of a truck was driving from the I-295 southbound entrance ramp onto Beach. They said the driver of the truck collided with the scooter under the overpass, and the driver of the truck left the scene. Troopers did not have a description of the truck driver. All westbound lanes of Beach Boulevard were closed after the crash.

FHP: Pedestrian struck, killed in late night accident
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A pedestrian was struck and killed on Beach Boulevard while crossing Beach Boulevard on Saturday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The Highway Patrol said an SUV was traveling east on Beach Boulevard near Thalia Road around 10 p.m. when that pedestrian stepped out in front of the moving vehicle. Troopers said SUV then collided with the pedestrian, who was not at an intersection. The pedestrian, a 37-year-old Jacksonville man, was transported to a hospital, where he died, troopers said. According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old Jacksonville man, and the two passengers, a 10-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl, were not injured.
Man killed overnight at University Boulevard apartment complex
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man was found shot and killed early Friday morning in the courtyard of an apartment complex on University just north of Beach Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office. Police believe the gunman left in a vehicle, but they donโt have any description of the suspect or the vehicle. Homicide detectives said officers and Jacksonville Fire Rescue arrived at the University Place apartment complex on University Boulevard just before 3:30 a.m. to find a man suffering from several gunshot wounds. Police are interviewing the witness who called 911, trying to learn if the person called during the shooting or after. Jacksonville man claims $1 million prize from $20 lottery scratch-off game
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A 69-year-old man who bought a $20 scratch-off ticket at a Publix on Beach Boulevard has claimed a $1 million prize, the Florida Lottery announced Wednesday. Jeffrey Parkin, of Jacksonville, used a secure drop box in at lottery headquarters in Tallahassee to claim the prize in the $5,000,000 Gold Rush Classic scratch-off game. He chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $710,000. The overall odds of winning are one-in-2.99. The grocery store on Beach at Kernan Road will receive a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning scratch-off ticket.

JSO: Pedestrian struck, killed on Beach Boulevard

Officers said they were called about 12:10 a.m. to a crash on Beach Boulevard, just east of Peach Drive, where they learned that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian. Police said the pedestrian, who was described as an adult man, died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation, police said. The detectives with the Traffic Homicide and Crime Scene units are investigating the crash.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash Monday evening on Beach Boulevard, just east of Interstate 295, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Troopers said the driver of the pickup took off on westbound Beach Boulevard after the crash. The Highway Patrol said it was working to see whether a nearby Wawa convenience store had any surveillance video. Since 2017, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, there have been seven deadly pedestrian crashes on Beach Boulevard between University and Kernan boulevards. JFRD: 1 seriously injured in Kernan Boulevard crash
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ One person was seriously injured in a crash late Sunday morning on Kernan Boulevard at Beach Boulevard, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said. The crash was reported just after 11:30 a.m.JFRD said crews had to free a person who was trapped in a vehicle involved in the crash. The person was then taken to a hospital with serious injuries, JFRD said.

Driver taken to hospital after car flips into Beach Boulevard auto shop lot
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ One person was hospitalized Sunday after a car flipped into the lot of an auto shop on Beach Boulevard near Hogan Road. The Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said the driver was heading west on Beach Boulevard Sunday morning when the black car veered off into the grass and flipped into the lot of Empire Auto Sales and Service. She also said the driver hit several of the cement barriers and pushed a Chevrolet Impala across the lot and thatโs when the black car flipped. A tow truck removed the black car and crews cleaned up the debris covering the lot. The auto shop caught the crash on camera and the Sheriffโs Office is investigating.

Historic bowling alley in Jacksonville Beach closes
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - A staple in Jacksonville Beach is no longer in business. Beach Bowl, the bowling alley along Beach Boulevard near Ninth Street closed its doors for good this weekend. When you call Beach Bowl, this is the message on the machine: "Welcome to Beach Bowl where the good times have stopped rolling. The historic Beach Bowl bowling alley had been open for more than 50 years and had its last bowl on Friday evening. Blue Angels wow crowds at Sea and Sky Air Show
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - The U.S. Navy Blue Angels roared across the sky in perfect formation Saturday above Jacksonville's packed beaches as the highlight of the Sea and Sky Air Show. Some people at the beach saw the Blue Angels for the first time and said they did not disappoint. The Blue Angels perform from spring to fall, and the Navy estimates that 11 million people see the squadrons exhibitions during those eight months. This year's Sea and Sky Air Show will also feature a rare air-sea duel. Bicyclist killed in crash near Adventure Landing
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - A bicyclist has died after he was hit by a car near Adventure Landing, according to the Jacksonville Beach Police Department. Larry Smith said the 29-year-old man was a transient who was hit at10:37 p.m. on Beach Boulevard and 20th Street North. He was transported to Memorial Hospital with serious injuries where he later died. Officers said the driver was cooperating and did not appear to be at fault. Flames rip through furniture store on Beach Boulevard
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The owners of a Jacksonville patio store on Beach Boulevard are waiting to learn the extent of damage after a large fire tore through the business Monday evening. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said 40 to 45 firefighters responded about 10:30 p.m. to the Palm Casual Patio Furniture on Beach Boulevard near St. Johns Bluff Road. Great stop of a lot of fire in a congested space last night...happy to report no injuries in the process. Crews were still working on hot spots an hour after they responded, but the majority of the fire was contained. Firefighters said the concern is that the furniture inside is highly flammable.
