JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jaguars owner Shad Khan and his family are giving a $5 million gift to the Museum of Science and History as it prepares to build a new facility in the area. MOSH announced on Oct. 15 that it was planning to move its location from the Southbank Riverwalk and build a new museum at the Shipyards. The museum started the MOSH Genesis capital campaign last year in hopes of raising $20 million in support. The museum initially planned to expand, announcing in March 2019 that its MOSH 2.0 vision would take it from 77,000 square feet to 120,000 square feet in its current location. 66 by Forbes with a net worth of $7.8 billion, but he is investing heavily in a new-look downtown area.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Museum of Science & History (MOSH) announced plans to build a new museum at the Shipyards property on the Northbank of Downtown Jacksonville, a release said. The new facility would replace current plans to renovate and expand the Museum’s existing building. “The presentation of a new site option at the Shipyards property provides an exciting opportunity to reconsider how we will serve Northeast Florida’s citizens and visitors in the years ahead.”Museum leaders anticipate pre-construction activity could begin in 2021. Construction costs for the new museum will be paid with funds from the MOSH 2.0 capital campaign. “The next iteration of MOSH will serve as a transformative center for science, innovation and humanities in Downtown," Jill Davis, Chair of the MOSH 2.0 campaign cabinet, said.

Maria Hane who was president of MOSH for more than 11 years is stepping down to take care of a sick family member. However, Hanes exit is a bittersweet moment for the MOSH community and especially to those who know her best. President since 2009, it still wasnt an easy decision for Hane to make especially while looking back on some of her most hard-won accomplishments. Interim President Bruce Fafard will take over leadership while the MOSH board searches for a full-time replacement.
