The Ponte Vedra Beach Branch of the St. Johns County Public Library System is temporarily closed due to emergency repairs to damage caused by a lightning strike last week, the St. Johns County Board of County Commissionersโ Office of Public Affairs said Friday.
St. Johns County crews rescue dog from drainage pipe
Crews worked for a couple of hours Saturday to rescue a dog stuck in a drainage pipe, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue. Fire Rescue and the St. Johns County Sheriffโs Office responded Saturday morning to the call for help. The dogโs owner told first responders that the dog, whoโs visually impaired and deaf, disappeared after he got out of his house by accident. Crews worked for about two hours to free the dog from the center of the pipe. Fire Rescue said the dog was scared and tired, but he was not injured.

Vehicle catches fire in garage of Ponte Vedra townhome
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. โ A vehicle caught fire in the garage of a home in Ponte Vedra Beach on Monday morning, authorities said. The fire was reported at 9:37 a.m. near Ponte Vedra Boulevard and Corona Road. St. Johns County Fire Rescue and they called Jacksonville Fire and Rescue for mutual aid. The fire was contained to the garage and limited damage was reported, SJCFR said. Firefighters said no injuries were reported.
3 teens injured in Nocatee golf cart crash
NOCATEE, Fla. St. Johns County Fire Rescue says three teenagers were taken to Wolfson Childrens Hospital after a golf cart they were in hit a light pole in the Nocatee community. The accident happened just after noon near the intersection of Preservation Trail and Regal Willow Road. There was no word on the age of the operator. Kitten rescued from storm drain thanks to St. Johns County Fire Rescue
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. St. Johns County Fire Rescue personnel on Saturday rescued a kitten from a storm drain. Fire Rescue said it received a call Saturday afternoon about a duckling stuck in a storm drain, but when the first responders arrived, they realized it wasnt a duckling. It was a kitten. The kitten was rescued and now has a new fur-ever home, Fire Rescue said.
Woman's body found in Intracoastal Waterway near St. Augustine Shores
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is working to identify a woman whose body was found Monday morning in the Intracoastal Waterway. Deputies were called to the waterway near The Riverview Club by St. Augustine Shores around 8:30 a.m. St. John's County Fire Rescue launched a vessel into the water and found the body drifting in the waterway. The woman is described as a black female, with an age range in her late teens to late 20s. At this time, deputies have received no reports of missing persons, or significant events in the area that might help to identify the woman. Anyone with any information regarding a person who matches these descriptors is asked to contact the St. John's County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit.
Airplane crashes into marsh near St. Augustine airport
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Two people were injured when an airplane crashed into the intracoastal waterway Sunday morning near the Northeast Florida Regional Airport in St. Augustine. According to St. Johns County Fire Rescue, the passengers were pulled from the Mooney M20J, a single engine low wing aircraft, around 9:30 a.m. by nearby boaters. The pilot of the plane, St. Augustine resident John Bailey, told FHP investigators he was attempting to land at the airport and experienced mechanical failures, according to a crash report from FHP. "We were fishing in a small creek south of St. Augustine airport. All inbound and outbound flights were temporarily stopped at the St. Augustine airport, according to the airport's website.

HazMat teams burn off large propane gas leak
SJCFR HazMat crews use the "flaring" process to burn off a gas leak at the St. Johns County Communication Center. ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - A gas leak in St. Johns County had to be burned off Friday afternoon after multiple mitigation efforts. St. Johns County Fire Rescue posted photos to Facebook. Crews responded to the St. Johns County Communication Center at 240 A1A North when a caller reported smelling gas in the area. SJCFR HazMat teams responded and attempted to mitigate the leak, but were unsuccessful due to the damaged condition of the tank.
Flames shoot out of Fruit Cove home in Tuesday morning fire
ST.JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - Firefighters with St. Johns County Fire Rescue were sent to extinguish a house fire in Fruit Cove Tuesday morning. The home is on Village Green Avenue off of Roberts Road. Deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriffs Office assisted firefighters. The Sheriffs Office posted a video on Facebook showing fire consuming the home and dark smoke billowing into the sky.
