2 ex-Texas sheriff deputies indicted in Black man's death
Camden, a former Williamson County Sheriff's Deputy, has been indicted on manslaughter charges in the March 2019 death of a 40-year-old Black man named Javier Ambler. The announcement Tuesday, March 30, 2021, comes two years after Ambler's death was filmed by the police reality TV series "Live PD." They were booked into a Travis County jail on Tuesday and released on $150,000 bond each within an hour, according to a spokeswoman for the Travis County Sheriff's Office. “We are very pleased to see that the Travis County District Attorney is serious about seeking justice for our family. Former Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody was also indicted last year on charges of destroying or concealing video in an investigation into Ambler's death.

Georgia’s COVID-19 case total surpasses 695,000
The Georgia Department of Public Health on Wednesday reported 5,772 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19. As of Wednesday, a total of 695,400 confirmed cases had been reported by the state Department of Public Health. According to the state Department of Public Health, 6,033,197 tests have been performed in the state, which had a 11.0% positivity rate, as of Wednesday. (Note: There are variations in the day-to-day data reported by the Georgia Department of Public Health. At times, cases and deaths are removed from the overall running total reported by the Department of Public Health.)
Coastal Georgia health officials urge patience in sign ups for COVID-19 vaccinations
The Southeast Georgia Health District that began scheduling appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations for those 65-years-old and older and their caregivers on Thursday has been overwhelmed by demand. Emergency first responders, healthcare workers and residents and staff of long-term care facilities are also eligible for the vaccine during the current phase. The Coastal Health District, which serves the counties of Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long and McIntosh, said there are about 100,000 people in that age group in the area. We sincerely hope that shortly there will be a community-wide network of providers (pharmacies, private physicians, health clinics, etc.) Your health department is staffed by a dedicated, scrappy bunch, but we are small and the task is large.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Just after midnight and showers and a few downpours are rolling across Duval, Clay and St. Johns counties. Later into the evening these rains will be mainly well west of Jacksonville, along I-75. On Wednesday, Gainesville airport had more than an inch of rain with a couple of heavy downpours. Starting out in the 70s and warming into the mid to upper 80s with widespread chances for passing rounds of showers. The best chance to see rain will be between 2-7 p.m.Friday, Saturday, and Sunday also look similar with rounds of showers and not as hot temperature topping out around 89°.
Moviegoers prepare to mask up in Georgia theaters
GLYNN, Ga. If youre going to the movies in southeast Georgia, you will be required to wear a mask. The Georgia Theatre Company has two theaters in Glynn, one in Camden and one in Ware. Just as other businesses are adapting to the pandemic while opening to customers, so are movie theaters. The Georgia Theatre Company is pledging to be cinema safe, an initiative launched by the National Association of Theatre Owners to follow COVID-19 safety practices. The first major new release, Tenant, directed by Christopher Nolan, is now playing in GTC movie theaters.

7 more COVID-19 deaths reported in SE Georgia counties
Fridays mid-afternoon update from the Georgia Department of Public Health showed only eight additional COVID-19 deaths in the state since Thursdays report, and seven of those were in just three Southeast Georgia counties: Glynn (5), Camden (1) and Pierce (1). The state reported 4,109 new cases of coronavirus on Friday, bringing the states total to 209,004. In the six Southeast Georgia counties tracked by News4Jax, 70 new cases were reported FridayBecause of their smaller populations, Charlton and Ware counties have the highest concentration of cases in Southeast Georgia -- both with more than 3,000 per 100,000 people -- and Ware, with 12 deaths, has seen the most per capita deaths in the region. The state puts Charlton in a group of 11 Georgia counties with the most cases in the last two weeks when weighted for its population. As of Friday, the total number of hospitalizations statewide stood at 20,282 -- 280 of which were reported in the last 24 hours.

Pubs and restaurants reopen in England as lockdown eased

Camden, Glynn will change to appointment-only coronavirus testing next week
Camden and Glynn counties are switching to appointment-only testing for COVID-19 to prevent long lines and wait times at area testing sites. The Coastal Health District announced the change Friday, saying it would begin Tuesday in Camden County and Wednesday in Glynn County. Demand for COVID-19 testing has increased significantly in the Coastal Health District and around the state of Georgia, said Dr. Lawton Davis, Health Director of the Coastal Health District. Camden CountyDrive-through testing will be available by appointment every Tuesday morning at the Camden County Health Department at 905 Dilworth Street in St. Marys, beginning Tuesday, July 7. Glynn CountyBeginning next week, the drive-through testing site at the Glynn County Health Department will be operational Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and alternating Saturdays.

Scattered weekend rain chances
Were off to a mild start in the upper 60s low 70s with some scattered showers moving on shore and staying east of the I-95 corridor. Our chance for scattered storms will increase later this morning into the afternoon. Ahead of the rain the National Weather Service has issued at Flash Flood Watch starting at 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. tonight. Sunday will bring another below average day in the 80s with a 50% chance for scattered showers. Rain sticks around Monday before we start to dry out on Tuesday through the rest of the week.

New Jersey Man Convicted of Promoting Tax Fraud Scheme
According to evidence presented at trial, between 2015 and 2016, Kenneth Crawford Jr., and his co-conspirators promoted and sold a mortgage recovery tax fraud scheme in which they obtained for their clients fraudulent refunds from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). As part of the scheme, Crawford and his co-conspirators caused clients to file forms that fraudulently claimed that a substantial amount of taxes had already been withheld from them. These false withholding claims caused the IRS to authorize significant refunds to which the clients were not entitled. As a result of Crawfords scheme, more than $2.5 million in fraudulent refunds were sought from the IRS, of which the IRS paid out more than $1.3 million. How Hurricane Dorian is likely to impact Coastal Georgia
Hurricane Dorian, a Category 2 storm with winds of 105 mph at midday Wednesday, was moving north-northwest at 9 mph. Coastal residents -- those who didn't evacuate -- will notice winds pick up in the afternoon as steadier rain pushes northward. The worst of the weather will be mainly confined to coastal Camden and Glynn counties for the duration of the storm. Any rain inland in Charlton, Ware and Brantley will taper off completely around sunrise with only coastal and northern Glynn County experiencing rain until Thursday afternoon. A storm surge warning is still in effect for all coastal Georgia.
