JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A woman died after being struck by a vehicle while walking on US-1 in the Grand Park neighborhood, early Sunday morning. Florida Highway Patrol says the SUV was traveling Northbound on US-1, just south of N Canal Street at around 1:15 a.m., when it struck the unidentified female pedestrian with the right-side front of the vehicle. Troopers report the woman was walking Southbound on the Northbound lane of US-1, towards oncoming traffic, when the incident happened. The female pedestrian died on the scene. Its part of the Kings Teen Stop the Violence Program funded by the Kids Hope Alliance. "When we started painting it is when we saw it could bring better hope to our community," Nayshawn said. A local community, Hebron Community Church in Grand Park, is stepping up to help. "We're not just a church in the community, so we serve as a partner," said Stanley Platts, pastor at Hebron Community Church in the Grand Park community. More than 150 backpacks and 600 pieces of clothes were given away for elementary to high school students. Any remaining supplies the Hebron Community Church has will be made available. More than 350 backpacks filled with school supplies will be given out to families in need.
