JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man described as approximately 60 years old died after he was stabbed “several times” Thursday afternoon at a McDonald’s on Old St. Augustine Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Blinn, with the Sheriff’s Office, said officers were called to the scene at about 3:30 p.m. He said the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, who was also called to the scene, transported the man to a hospital where he died from his injuries. A suspect, who was described as a man between 30 and 40 years old, was taken into custody. They were inside of the restaurant and at some point an altercation ensued, and the suspect stabbed the victim several times,” Blinn said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man died late Saturday night when he darted in front of an SUV on Interstate 295 at Old St. Augustine Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the 31-year-old man was outside a disabled car about 11:30 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, he left the median and moved in front of the northbound vehicle. He died at the scene. The driver stopped and was cooperating with FHP.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One person was killed and two people were injured in two crashes Sunday morning on Interstate 95 near Old St. Augustine Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The driver of the SUV, a 40-year-old Jacksonville man, was ejected from the vehicle and critically injured, troopers said. The Highway Patrol report shows he was not wearing a seat belt. Then, troopers said, the driver of the pickup truck braked before hitting the rear of the parked roadway maintenance truck. Troopers said the driver of the pickup truck and the passenger, both of Daytona Beach, were taken to Memorial Hospital, where the driver -- a 38-year-old man -- later died.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A vehicle that sped away to avoid being pulled over by officers Thursday morning on I-295, ran a red light when exiting the highway -- and struck an off-duty officer’s patrol car, police said. The driver ran from the crash scene but was found nearby by responding officers, police said. According to JSO, officers tried to pull the driver over in the Buckman Bridge area around 3:20 a.m., but the driver sped away. The driver got off I-295 at Old St. Augustine Road, but ran through the red light and hit the off-duty officer who was driving in the other direction. All lanes of Old St. Augustine Road were closed in the area of I-295 as police investigated the crash Thursday morning.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An employee at a Jacksonville senior living facility has tested positive for novel coronavirus, the facility told residents and visitors this week. The facility, Wyndham Lakes on Old St. Augustine Road, said Friday it is now following federal and state health guidelines to prevent the respiratory illness from spreading. “The employee was working in a segregated area of the community which limits the potential exposure to other residents and staff,” Matheny told News4Jax on Friday. The state has reported 53 cases and nine deaths among long-term care facility staff and residents in Duval County. One in five COVID-19 deaths in Florida is linked to long-term care facilities, the state says, and people ages 65 and up make up 82 percent of the statewide death toll.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police found a man suffering from several gunshot wounds inside a car on the southbound lanes of Interstate 295 near the Old St. Augustine Road exit early Sunday morning. Jacksonville officers called to the scene at 2:12 a.m. found the male victim inside a vehicle. A News4Jax viewer witnessed the scene and sent pictures showing a heavy police presence on the side of the highway. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Aggravated battery detectives are investigating the incident.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A 34-year-old man was killed Sunday night in a crash on I-295 in Mandarin. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Thomas Clarke was traveling down I-295 northbound near Old St. Augustine Road when he lost control of his Jeep Grand Cherokee around 9:38 p.m. Troopers said his Jeep crossed over the express lanes dividers and crashed into a Chevrolet Camaro before overturning several times. Clarke was transported to Orange Park Medical Center where investigators said he later died. The woman in the Camaro was taken to Baptist Health South with minor injuries.
