JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The city’s pop-up vaccination clinic at the Clanzel Brown Senior Center in Moncrief opened for a second and final day Saturday. It’s in an effort by city and community leaders to reach underserved communities where the vaccine has not been available. The Clanzel Brown Center was open Saturday for health care workers, first responders and people 65 and up whose birthdays are from July through December. (Nearly 500 doses were administered Friday to those with January through June birthdays.) Ron DeSantis has pushed for vaccination clinics to open at places of worship across the state -- with a focus on predominantly Black churches.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police said the sound of gunfire picked up by Shot Spotter brought police to a convenience store on Moncrief Road at Golfair Boulevard about 1 p.m. Friday. Homicide detectives said a man shot multiple times behind the business ran a short distance before collapsing. Adam Blinn said the gunman was seen leaving in a white Volvo sedan, heading north on Moncrief. Blinn said the two men knew each other and agreed to meet there. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 25-year-old man was charged with murder after police say an argument over a pickup truck at a Northwest Jacksonville Monday night escalated to gunfire and one man died. Mack Johnson was detained at the scene at a gas station at the corner of New Kings and Moncrief road. Edwin Cayenne said Johnson pulled a gun and fired during the argument. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said they weren’t sure what the argument was about but the men knew each other. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office were called to investigate a shooting Thursday night in the Moncrief neighborhood. The shooting occurred at the Hilltop Village Apartments. A spokesperson for JSO said officers and Jacksonville Fire Rescue responded to the area for a reported shooting around 7:45 Thursday night. Upon arrival, a man was found with at least one gunshot wound. No further information was released, including whether the man was found inside or outside of an apartment.

Northside residents say they feel pushed to the side again following Monday’s unveiling of plans for the Lot J development. “Development for Lot J, I think, it’s a big waste of money. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A new sports complex for kids is more than likely coming to Northwest Jacksonville. The project is funded by The Cal Ripkin Sr. Foundation. During a meeting of the Social Justice Committee of the city council, members learned on Monday about the plans for the complex. The baseball park funding is coming from a $1.3 million grant from the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation and the park will be run by the Boys and Girls Club of Northeast Florida. The complex will require city funding for its operation which will need the approval of city council and the mayor.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Police are asking for the publics help to identify a child found by himself in the Moncrief neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office. The Sheriffs Office said the boy was found Thursday near West 45th Street and Golfbrook Drive, and since then police have been unable to locate his parents. This is, like, one of the biggest parades we've had so far because we're celebrating 50 years of excellence, 50 years of community, 50 years of our youth," said parade coordinator Quen Sams. "It's a big rivalry, and we understand that it's a big family, a neighborhood and one big community." She said for her, the event means she's part of the heritage and embedded history in Jacksonville. "You see alumni come out, you see their children and the legacy of being a Viking, because I'm actually a third-generation Viking," Manning said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Days after a gay man was beaten and dragged behind a van, News4Jax is learning more about the victim of what police are calling a horrendous attack and others characterized as a hate crime. The 37-year-old man, whose family did not wish to share his name, is in critical condition at UF Health Jacksonvilles intensive care unit, a relative told News4Jax. The relative said the man has not woken up since Fridays attack and is currently on a feeding tube. From what I hear, they even got a video of them fighting him and this person were fighting each other. He said the stress, sleeplessness and tears over the past few days have taken their toll on the family.

Family members told News4Jax that the people who were critically injured in the fire were Danielle Nicole Ethridge and her three children, Amarah, Carla and Taj. But News4Jax I-TEAM uncovered more safety violations at Majestic Plaza. According to the City of Jacksonville, Code Enforcement went out Friday to inspect Majestic Plaza and the property was cited with multiple violations. "You can smell it over here," said Michael Drayton, who lives across the street from Majestic Plaza. As the I-TEAM walked the property Tuesday, there were broken windows, broken air-conditioning units and trash scattered everywhere. We havent had hot water since before last year," said Majestic Plaza resident Liz Sims, who has a 6-year-old and another child on the way.

The owners held an annual back-to-school bash where they gave out more than 100 bookbags filled with school supplies. Its an annual party for neighborhood kids to let loose before they start a new school year. This was the biggest back-to-school party weve had thus far," said Renita Turner, barbershop owner. "This is checked off my list for back to school things.Back on July 12, News4Jax previewed plans to hold this event and the money needed to purchase school supplies. That story made all this possible.In addition to backpacks and school supplies, the barbershop also gave out clothing and vouchers for children to receive haircuts right before they start the new school season.
