Detective uses PIT maneuver, halts SUV reportedly stolen during carjacking, police say
Police used a PIT maneuver Wednesday evening to stop an SUV that had been reported stolen during an armed carjacking earlier in the day, which occurred in Northwest Jacksonville, according to the Sheriffโs Office.
Jacksonville woman accused in deadly wrong-way crash turns herself in
An SUV that was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Arlington Expressway collided head-on with another vehicle last May, according to police. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A Jacksonville woman has been accused of vehicular homicide after a deadly wrong-way crash on the Mathews Bridge last year. One person died and another was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after the crash on the morning of May 3 on the Arlington Expressway, the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said. The Sheriffโs Office said the officer turned around in an attempt to stop the SUV, and as the officer approached, the SUV struck a vehicle on the bridge. The SUV then went underneath the Cesery Boulevard overpass and struck another vehicle head-on as that vehicle was traveling west on Arlington Expressway, the Sheriffโs Office said.

AdA pandemic-related measure that allows the Border Patrol to expel people without an opportunity to seek asylum potentially leads some to try to evade authorities instead of surrendering, sometimes with fatal consequences.
California crash kills 13 of 25 people crammed into SUV
Another person died at a hospital, California Highway Patrol Chief Omar Watson said. Watson said the SUV only had front seats โ the middle and back seats had been removed. AdMacario Mora, a spokesman for Customs and Border Protection, said agents were not pursing the SUV at the time of the crash, which was initially rumored. โIt was an unusual number of people in an SUV, but we donโt know who they were,โ Mora said. AdA California Highway Patrol report said the SUV entered an intersection directly in front of the big-rig, which hit the left side of the SUV.
Troopers chase SUV across Buckman Bridge at 100 mph, force crash
The Florida Highway Patrol said the chase began at 7:18 a.m. at Old St. Augustine and I-295 when a trooper spotted a reckless driver going north at 100 mph. That trooper tried to get the driver to pull over, but a chase ensued. A second trooper joined the pursuit as they crossed Buckman Bridge heading toward Orange Park. It was just the flipped car with any damage.โMichael Bennett was also driving across the bridge and saw the whole thing happen. News4Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson, who is a former Jacksonville police officer, said he questions the use of the PIT maneuver.
Troopers: 1 dead in crash on I-295 at Southside Connector
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A man is dead after a crash Monday afternoon on I-295 involving a pickup truck and SUV, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said a truck was traveling south on the interstate near the Southside Connector when, for unknown reasons, an SUV traveling north on the interstate crossed through a median and into the southbound lanes. According to FHP, the SUV and the pickup truck collided. The driver of the SUV, a 31-year-old man, was rushed to a hospital and later died. The driver of the truck, a 41-year-old man, was said to have minor injuries.
FHP: Pedestrian struck, killed in late night accident
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A pedestrian was struck and killed on Beach Boulevard while crossing Beach Boulevard on Saturday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The Highway Patrol said an SUV was traveling east on Beach Boulevard near Thalia Road around 10 p.m. when that pedestrian stepped out in front of the moving vehicle. Troopers said SUV then collided with the pedestrian, who was not at an intersection. The pedestrian, a 37-year-old Jacksonville man, was transported to a hospital, where he died, troopers said. According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old Jacksonville man, and the two passengers, a 10-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl, were not injured.
High speed Georgia chase reaches speeds of 117 mph
CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. Dash cam video released by the Camden County Sheriffs Office reveals a high speed pursuit that reached speeds of 117 mph down a winding road in Georgia. It all started with a deputy spotted a white SUV speeding along I-95 southbound. Video shows when a deputy tries to pull the SUV over, the driver speeds up and then gets off the highway. Camden County authorities said Bauer is suspected in multiple thefts in and around the Savannah Georgia area and is also a suspect in a previous high speed chase in Chatham County. Bauer faces 16 charges in Camden County, which are related to the chase.
Police: Escalade crashes through Green Cove Springs home
CLAY COUNTY, Fla. A sport utility vehicle crashed through a home in a Green Cove Springs neighborhood on Monday. Officers with the Green Cove Springs Police Department responded to an argument, which led to a suspects SUV crashing into a residence, according to a post on the agencys Facebook page. I heard a really loud bang, said a resident of the Cove neighborhood. I honestly thought somebody hit my car, so I ran outside.She said thats when she realized a Cadillac Escalade had collided into her neighbors home. No one was hurt and the driver of the vehicle was arrested, the Police Department confirmed.
FHP: Pedestrian struck, killed on 103rd Street

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an SUV on Monday night on Jacksonvilles Westside, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash happened about 9:15 p.m. on 103rd Street near Kinkaid Road. The Highway Patrol said a 68-year-old Jacksonville man was attempting to cross 103rd Street when he was hit by an SUV traveling in the outside westbound lane. The man was taken to Orange Park Medical Center, where he died, troopers said. The driver of the SUV, a 48-year-old Jacksonville woman, was reportedly uninjured.
Troopers: 2 killed in Gainesville crash involving motorcycle, SUV
GAINESVILLE โ Two people are dead after a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV in Gainesville on Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash happened at Southwest 24th Avenue and Southwest 70th Terrace. Troopers said the SUV was attempting to make a left turn onto eastbound Southwest 24th Avenue when the motorcycle collided with the driverโs door. The motorcycle immediately caught fire and both drivers died, according to troopers. The driver of the SUV was identified as Lula Mae Melton, 55, of Gainesville.
