A woman and a 3-month-old baby were killed late Friday night in a shooting in a Northeast Gainesville neighborhood, police said. According to the Gainesville Police Department, officers responded to multiple 911 calls about shots being fired on NE 17th Drive and found Kevi Ellis, 26, still shooting. Police said they found a woman dead from multiple gunshot wounds and found the infant dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Ellis was taken in for an interview and later charged with two counts of homicide and one count of attempted homicide. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and mental health experts are joining forces to help people with mental health issues. “The team is mostly proactive, seeking out individuals in need in our community and attempting to connect them with services,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. The Sheriff’s Office receives funding for its program from LSF Health Systems, whose chief executive says it’s a program worth funding. Mike Schentrup with the Gainesville Police Department, which has had a co-responder program for two years now, said there are risks involved for officers and co-responders. “That mental health professional, they train on, ‘When do I just stay in the car?’” Schentrup said.”We know and we’re taught deescalation, and we’re taught that time is on our side.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Emails circulating within African American churches throughout Gainesville contain an alleged warning from the NAACP that white supremacists were coming to the area to kidnap black men and hang them, according to the Gainesville Police Department. GPD immediately consulted with federal authorities, including the FBI, and confirmed that the threat and the emails are not authentic. The exact same email was circulated throughout the African American community in Atlanta several months ago. The NAACP said they were not aware of any such threats and had issued any warning. “GPD takes any threats such as these extremely seriously and will continue to partner with local and federal law enforcement agencies to protect and serve our neighbors in the Gainesville community,” according to a release Friday morning.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gainesville Police Department said a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led to the arrest of a man on 12 counts of possession of child pornography. Police said Tennant and his wife maintained a day care out of their home from 1985 to December 2016. The name of the day care was Miss Lynn’s Daycare and later changed to Tennant Family Home Daycare. Police did not indicate if any of the children at the day care were pictured in the images. Police said Tennant’s wife had no knowledge of her husband’s possession of or interest in child exploitation material.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 13-year-old boy died and another teen suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash Sunday in Gainesville involving a stolen vehicle. The traffic crash happened about 5:15 p.m. on Northeast 25th Street near Northeast 4th Avenue, according to the Gainesville Police Department. Police said the two teens were riding in a Ford Taurus heading south on Northeast 25th Street at a “very high rate of speed” when a stolen scooter cut them off. A 17-year-old boy who was also in the vehicle was taken to UF Health Shands Gainesville with life-threatening injuries. GAINESVILLE, Fla. - A woman was arrested this week on a warrant charging her with child abuse after an 8-month-old at the Cuddly Kids Academy suffered injuries last week, the Gainesville Police Department announced Wednesday afternoon. Police said they were called about 4:30 p.m. Thursday to the day care on Southeast Fourth Avenue after the parent of the child arrived to find injuries on the child's face. The initial investigation indicated the injuries may have been caused by another child, but upon reviewing the surveillance footage, it was discovered day care worker Erica Hall, 37, caused the injuries, according to the Police Department. As officers were reviewing the footage, the Police Department said, Hall ran from the premises and could not be located. A warrant was issued Friday for her arrest, and Hall turned herself in Tuesday to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and was booked into the Alachua County jail, the Police Department said.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - An armed robbery victim was lured through an online dating service, according to the Gainesville Police Department. The Police Department said it received about 3:10 p.m. Tuesday its fifth report of an armed robbery at the University Commons Apartment Complex on Southwest Archer Road, near the University of Florida campus. Police said the victim was lured by the armed robbers through an online dating service. Police said unsuspecting victims have responded to an "ad" online and when they arrive, they are confronted by two men, armed with a weapon, who demand money before running off. Anyone with information about the cases can submit information anonymously and be eligible for a cash reward by contacting Crime Stoppers at 352-372-STOP or www.stopcrime.tv.

According to police, 31-year-old Scott Michael Henson, of Gainesville, was arrested after police held a press conference highlighting the success of their sting, which was covered by local media. The arrest was announced after News4Jax found that two of the other men arrested in the sting had ties to Santa Fe College in Gainesville. Of those arrested, many remained in jail Wednesday with bond amounts ranging from $75,000 to $300,000. Investigators said that Stamper also talked with agents posing as a 14-year-old girl and arranged to meet for sex. He also agreed to bring the girl Skittles and had the candy with him when he was arrested.
