Bouncing back!
Could be, thatโs could be, we are closing out one of the final freezing cold morning this winter. There are strong and building indications that we will see a much milder (even warm) pattern developing over the next 7-10 days. We call this a tease as we will get into the details of this in my Newsletter (sent to your email box) this Wednesday.
TGIF! Friday kicks off beautifully
After having the second coldest three afternoonโs all winter (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) we will start off chilly, but not freezing cold. Friday morning will see low temperatures from 35-45ยฐ. Coldest along US301 westward. Not quite wall to wall blue skies, as there will be a some high clouds and could bring a decent sunrise. Sunrise is at 7:10 a.m. Best viewing will start around 6:55 a.m.
Georgia gets a taste of freezing temperatures
Locally, around Jacksonville, we may see a few patches of frost well inland. Downtown to the beaches, it will be another chilly start Wednesday with sunrise temperatures in the 40s to 50s along the coast. Skies will be generally clear, just a few coastal clouds. Sunrise is at 7:24 a.m.
Terrific Tuesday, almost
Monday morning started off as the coldest morning we have had since early April, it was 46ยฐ as the sun came up. Blue skies turned gray, almost wintry looking. Yet, these clouds will actually help keep our morning temperatures milder as we wake up on Tuesday. Yes, having a high overcast of clouds actually reduces the amount of heat being radiated back into space during the night. The result is milder temperatures than if skies are clear.
Final 90ยฐ day of 2021 ???
Near perfect temperatures, breezes, humidity and clouds. Too bad there are a few rain showers blowing onshore just south of Jacksonville. This is the trade-off we get in October, as warm water temperatures allow for small showers to bubble up and then the northeast fall breezes push them onshore. This will be mainly in Flagler and St. Johns counties.
Dog days of August shift into tropics watching
Short term, tonight through Friday evening will be some of our quietest weather days we have seen all summer. As we saw earlier Thursday, a few isolated pop-up thundershowers along the sea-breeze in St. Johns and Duval counties developed around 4 p.m. and they quickly faded. That was basically it for rainfall.
Back to school (for some) as summer heat, humidity and pm storms roll on
Where our eyes will be focused on increased road traffic as schools are back in session for a number of local counties, the Weather Authority team will be focusing on the developing tropical system entering into the Caribbean Sea. See the articles in the Weather News and Hurricane section of News4jax.com
A slight chance of showers today, expanding through the week, weekend
Patchy to dense morning fog with a few showers to start your Wednesday and last through sunrise.ย Showers will linger along our coastal zones and then fade as they move west of I-95.ย Wind continues onshore this afternoon.ย Shower and storm coverage will continue through the end of the week.
We flip the calendar this weekend and by next week it will feel a lot like summer
Beautiful, almost summer-like weather as we wrap up the work week. Sunrise temperatures will be slowly rising over the next week and this will have a huge impact on our yards (grass will grow faster), on pools and area lakes, rivers and the Atlantic Ocean. Better beach days are ahead.
Cruising into the weekend on a high (hot) note
Beautiful, almost summer-like weather as we wrap up the work week. Sunrise temperatures will be slowly rising over the next week and this will have a huge impact on our yards (grass will grow faster), on pools and area lakes, rivers and the Atlantic Ocean. Better beach days are ahead.
Make it a FOUR-peat of near record heat
Sunrise temperatures will be in the upper 50s inland, around 60ยฐ downtown and the Southside with area beaches starting off in the low 60s. Sunrise is at 7:24 a.m. and due to some high clouds, it could be fairly spectacular. During the typical heat of the day, mid-afternoon, say around 3 p.m. our temperatures will peak in the upper 80s along and west of I-95, to the mid-70s at area beaches. the cool sea breeze at area beaches will start to push onshore (westward) causing temperatures to cool back into the 60s. AdTomorrow evening will be beautiful, really pleasant as evening temperatures cool back into the 70s.
Turnaround Tuesday as the norโeaster finally fades
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Another chilly start with Tuesday morning sunrise temperatures starting around 50ยฐ inland to around 60ยฐ at area beaches. Sunrise is at 7:27 a.m. and there will be building sunshine, everywhere, including area beaches. Afternoon highs will respond to the sunshine, expect highs in the upper 60s at area beaches to mid 70s inland. By the afternoon highs will approach 80ยฐ just after lunch. More later...One more day for area beaches
Sunny and cool Friday makes way for damp and cold weekend
Enjoy it while it lasts because the weekend will be most associated with a norโeaster. Norโeaster conditions develop Saturday with mostly cloudy skies and below average lows in the upper 50s. Blustery winds will develop over the weekend out of the north northeast 15-20 mph. These northeasterly winds will also cause some issues at our beaches with rough surf and a high rip current risk through the weekend. Sunday will be slightly warmer in the low 60s with cloudy skies and strong northeasterly winds 15-20 mph.

Clear evening turns chilly, weekend clouds and showers loom
Sunny skies and mild temperatures turn into a chilly and clear night, with overnight lows in the mid 40s. Friday looks sunny and beautiful, with slightly cooler temperatures, topping out in the upper 60s. Friday evening clouds will begin to build, ahead of chances for showers on Saturday. The weekend starts off with clouds and scattered showers are expected. Temperatures will be chilly, only making it into the upper 50s and low 60s.
Warmth during the day with a touch of cool winter at night
Another sunny day will lead into a clear night. Temps drop into the 60s for your early evening stroll after sunset. Buy sunrise temps reach the low to mid 50s with crisp clear skies. High pressure continues to block any chance for rain through the weekend but it returns Monday and lingers through midweek. Daytime highs warm into the 80s area wide Friday through the weekend.
Tonight the coldest of the week
Tonight may be the last we see of chilly low 40s for a while. Clear skies will help the temps drop below 60 after 7 pm and eventually reach the upper 30s and lower 40s at inland locations and upper 40s at the coast. Then comes a warm up resulting in perhaps three consecutive 80ยฐ days by the weekend; a feat not seen locally since last Thanksgiving. The spring feel takes shape tomorrow afternoon in the mid 70s with sunny skies and low humidity. By Friday showers may target areas near Georgia while most areas in NEFLA remain dry.
Florida Panthers off to 2nd-best start in franchise history
Floridaโs 6-1-2 start through nine games is the second-best in franchise history, topped only by the 6-0-3 record to open the 1996-97 season. โWe've been consistent in most games," Florida coach Joel Quenneville said. Starting poorly, however, has pretty much snuffed out some Panthers seasons before they even started. The five Florida teams that went to the playoffs โ 1995-96, 1996-97, 1999-2000, 2011-12 and 2015-16 โ averaged 12 standings points through the seasonโs first nine games. Thereโs obviously a long way to go, but the Panthers finally have the start they wanted.
Father of Parkland shooting victim backs federal school safety bill
The school safety commission was created after the deadly mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in an effort to address several topics in order to prevent future school shootings. If passed, the bill would nationally systematize the bundle of school safety information compiled at schoolsafety.gov. โThe Trump administration agreed with my idea, they created this school safety clearinghouse.โAdSen. Rubio said this centralized source for best school safety practices will provide schools some consistency nationwide. โSo, I encourage every parent and every school to go to schoolsafety.gov, the federal school safety clearinghouse website, and take a look at it.โThe bill was referred to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. She has agreed with people who claimed the Parkland shooting was a โfalse flagโ operation, meaning it was fake, or staged.
Retired FBI agent on serving warrants: โYou canโt account for everythingโ
Retired FBI agent Ellen Glasser, whoโs now the mayor of Atlantic Beach, said the shooting that killed two FBI agents and injured three others Tuesday in South Florida hits close to home. โI did not know any of these agents, but when something like this happens, the wound is really deep. Glasser knows what itโs like to serve a warrant at a home where you donโt know how the suspect may react. In 1986, bank robbers shot and killed two FBI agents and wounded five others in Miami. โMake no mistake, it is a dangerous job, and every day when you get up and go to work, this may be your final day,โ Glasser said.
FBI: 2 agents killed, 3 wounded, suspect dead in Florida
Two of the wounded agents were taken to hospitals to be treated and were in stable condition, said Miami FBI Agent Michael D. Leverock. Based on a preliminary investigation, federal officials believe the suspect fatally shot himself, according to a law enforcement official familiar with the matter. AdThe FBI agents had come to the apartment complex to serve a federal search warrant in connection with a case involving child pornography and violent crimes against children, according to Leverock and FBI Agents Association President Brian OโHare. Law enforcement officials from numerous agencies lined up to pay their respects as a flag-covered body was removed from the vehicle and taken inside. Five other FBI agents were wounded in that shooting, which led the bureau to upgrade the weapons that agents carry.

Hours later, Sunrise Police urged residents of Water Terrace to remain inside their homes while law enforcement blocked the entrances to their community. AdThe shootings marked one of the bloodiest days in FBI history in South Florida and among the deadliest nationally as well, according to the FBI website. Law enforcement officials from numerous agencies lined up to pay their respects as a flag-covered body was removed from the vehicle and taken inside. Another toasty, well above normal work week
Expect morning sunrise temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s. With the sunrise, there will be some patchy dense inland fog. Wednesday will be an identical day, with morning patchy fog, followed by sunshine and warm afternoon highs in the mid-80s. Those northeast winds will keep afternoon highs in the low to mid-70s for Saturday and Sunday. Patchy sunrise fog
Not-so-terrific Tuesday as storms return in the afternoon and evening hours
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Issues continue in the wake of our recent wet weather pattern, including a Flood Watch for St. Johns and Flagler counties. There will be a few morning showers, it is more likely that the afternoon and evening hours will see a round, or two of storms. Some could have small hail and gusty winds, even to severe levels. Severe levels include winds above 60 mph and hail 1โณ or greater. Sunrise Wednesday may still have a few showers and then skies will clear before the lunch hour.
Early Thursday morning Duval downpours, yes even before the sunrises
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Just after midnight and showers and a few downpours are rolling across Duval, Clay and St. Johns counties. Later into the evening these rains will be mainly well west of Jacksonville, along I-75. On Wednesday, Gainesville airport had more than an inch of rain with a couple of heavy downpours. Starting out in the 70s and warming into the mid to upper 80s with widespread chances for passing rounds of showers. The best chance to see rain will be between 2-7 p.m.Friday, Saturday, and Sunday also look similar with rounds of showers and not as hot temperature topping out around 89ยฐ.
It's another F-R-Y-Day
Actually the only reason we don't see very hot highs in the upper 90s on Sunday will be due to the expected afternoon and evening storms. Yep, prepare for lots of heat and then afternoon and evening and overnight storms? The pattern is such that if we don't see mid afternoon storms we will likely still see thunderstorms well into the evening and overnight hours. Sunrise is at 6:50 a.m. this morning and it will be another steamy start with earl;y morning temperatures around 80 and feel-like (in the shade) already near 90. For a few folks this could add up quickly with a couple of days in a row with heavy storms.
