Cooke scored 17 points, hitting five of six 3-point attempts, to lead top-seed South Carolina to a 76-65 win over fifth-seeded Georgia Tech on Sunday and reach the Elite Eight. The South Carolina coach praised Fortner's positivity, which is something Georgia Tech needed when they hired her in 2019. Fortner provided that and had Georgia Tech reach its second-ever Sweet 16 in her second season. South Carolina built a 10-point lead before Georgia Tech scored the final six points of the half to only trail 39-35 at the break.

Houston hosts 14 games in April -- Oakland and Detroit visit for three each, the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle play four times. ___The Charlotte Hornets will allow approximately 5,000 fans to attend NBA home games beginning March 26 against Miami, or about 25% percent of the Spectrum Center’s seating capacity. One referee tested positive for COVID-19, forcing him and five others who went out to dinner with him, out of the tournament. The Yellow Jackets endured a rough start against Melbourne Palm Bay in a 67-36 loss in the Class 5A state semifinals on Thursday afternoon at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland. Things spiraled quickly from there as Palm Bay roared to a 21-point halftime lead and never looked back. The cold start coupled with a Palm Bay team that was red hot from just about everywhere on the court took away the suspense. Palm Bay erased St. Augustine from the 3-point arc (4 for 25) while hitting nearly half of its tries from 3.

The Crusaders (20-9) jumped out to an 18-0 start before West Florida managed to hit a bucket 11 minutes into the game. In Region 1-5A, St. Augustine reached its first state semifinal since 2001 with a 52-47 victory over Fort Walton Beach. The Yellow Jackets (26-1) have been on a tear and enter their state semifinal game against Palm Bay on Thursday at 2 p.m. on a 21-game winning streak.

The Celtics ruled out Jaylen Brown, Javonte Green, Semi Ojeleye, Jayson Tatum, Tristan Thompson, Grant Williams and Robert Williams. A pair of other Celtics are injured, which leaves Boston with the minimum eight players available on Sunday. Players having to miss multiple days is a very real possibility even if they were exposed to someone with the virus.

St. Augustine’s football season ended abruptly on Friday night, a 49-48 loss in triple overtime in the Class 6A state semifinals at Lake Minneola. The Yellow Jackets scored in the third OT and went for a two-point conversion to win it but quarterback Sam Edwards’ pass fell incomplete as the Hawks (11-1) survived. The Yellow Jackets (10-3), who trailed 20-0 in the opening quarter, roared back in a hurry and led 21-20 at the break. Edwards threw touchdown passes to Riley Stevens and Cody Cooper and Dequan Stanley had a touchdown run in the opening half. Bolles, Trinity Christian and University Christian will all play for state championships next week.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Three area high school football teams have already booked tickets to next week’s state championship games in Tallahassee. St. Augustine High is looking to make it fourth. This marks the eighth final four berth for St. Augustine and second under coach Brian Braddock. St. Augustine has ripped off nine consecutive victories after a 1-2 start. Lake Minneola, which opened in 2011, has never been this deep in the playoffs.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – True freshman Jeff Sims, who was once a Florida State commitment, threw for 277 yards and a touchdown as Georgia Tech defeated the Seminoles 16-13 in both teams' season opener on Saturday night. Cornerback Asante Samuel had two interceptions and two pass break-ups for Florida State. A NEW-LOOK OFFENSEJeff Sims’ 24 completions are the most by a Georgia Tech quarterback since Reggie Ball had 27 vs. Duke on Nov. 8, 2003. Florida State officials had expected between 19,000-20,000, roughly 25 percent of the capacity at Doak Campbell Stadium. Georgia Tech plays host to UCF on Saturday.
