Dozens of rodent droppings are among the reasons that two Northeast Florida restaurants were shut down last week, and an inspector even found a live rodent in one of the restaurants, according to Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation records.
JEA complaint triggers emergency shutdown for food truck
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A food truck is back open after receiving emergency shutdown orders from the Department of Business and Professional Regulations on March 11. The restaurant report shows that when inspectors arrived, the truck was dumping wastewater and grease through a drain line that wasn’t properly connected. On a return inspection the next day, all violations were cleared except for a stained cutting board that needed to be replaced and Ruta Catracha was allowed to reopen. We reached out to the owner of Ruta Catracha, but haven’t heard back yet. Casa Maria Mexican Restaurant on Main StreetA customer complaint first brought inspectors to Casa Maria Mexican Restaurant on Main Street in Jacksonville on Feb. 24. The inspector’s report shows 17 total violations during that visit, including 37 dead roaches throughout the business and 14 live ones. Of those, three live roaches were found crawling inside the warming oven where rice is kept. The inspector returned three more times, finding live roaches each time. Inspector finds dead snake, roaches, rodent droppings and flies at Jacksonville restaurant
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Inspectors shut down a Jacksonville soul food restaurant, Munchies Food For The Soul, after finding several high priority health violations. Right off the bat, the inspection report shows the restaurant was cited for having a dead snake and three dead roaches in a glue trap, but that’s not what got Munchies Food For The Soul shut down. The inspector noted 34 rodent dropping were found near the reach-in freezer and leading behind the ice machine. Also scoring in the shutdown, the inspector cited Munchies for storing hot food in a cabinet for 4½ hours. Other issues raised by the inspector were fixed by our management team within 30 minutes,” the restaurant wrote.
Fourth time’s a charm: Jacksonville Church’s Chicken back open after multiple failing inspections
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville Church’s Chicken was shut down for two days after a failing visit from the health inspector. The Church’s Chicken at 6037 Merrill Road is open again, but it took four tries to finally get it right. At the inspector’s initial visit on August 11, Church’s Chicken was cited with 11 violations. Inspectors cited the fast-food chain location for leaving the dumpster lid open, missing a ceiling tile, and a build-up of food crumbs and residue on equipment handles among others. On the fourth attempt, Church’s Chicken was allowed to reopen.
Health inspectors find a food truck with a big roach problem
During a routine visit to the food truck on July 16, an inspector issued a stop-sale on all inventory in the mobile unit. The inspector cited Hum Hum Food Truck with a single high priority violation. The food truck had to remain closed. The roaches were gone, and the food truck received a perfect inspection, reports show. The food truck was allowed to reopen.
A greasy situation at Asian Fusion restaurant, plus dozens of rodent droppings found at pizza place
The restaurant had only 5 violations total, but 2 of those three posed a major health threat, according to health inspectors report. A report from the routine inspection on May 29, shows the inspector found 24 rodent droppings in the kitchen of the pizzeria, noting 12 rodent droppings were found on the floor behind a mixer in the kitchen; 5 more rodent droppings were counted on the floor behind the reach-in freezer; 7 rodent droppings were seen on the floor behind the oven. Crab shack and sushi house reopen after emergency shutdowns by health inspectors

Seafood restaurant and sandwich shop fail inspections forcing temporary closures before Valentine’s Day
JACKSONVILLE, Fla – Timoti’s Seafood Shak off Park Street in Jacksonville had a total of four violations when an inspector visited the restaurant on February 13th. Several of the violations were basic, including an employee placing his or her phone on the prep table and a leaky faucet. The notable ones include the inspector finding nine live roaches behind a white chest in the freezer. The inspector also found a manager on staff did not have his or her proper food manager certification. Famous Sandwiches and Subs corrected the violations and reopened the next day.
Popular buffet shut down for hundreds of rat droppings, food truck operating without running water
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Osake Buffet on Southside Blvd in Jacksonville was forced to close last week after 300 rat droppings were found all throughout the premise. Sad news for sushi lovers : The most droppings of one area were found behind the sushi bar buffet line. At the St. Augustine Premium outlets, the Kings Tacos food truck was operating with no running water upon the inspector’s arrival on January 31. All three of those violations were corrected on site, but it was temporarily closed for the lack of water. At a follow up inspection on the first of February the Kings Tacos met inspection standards.

"When you say Beach Road, it's like a little antenna pops up and it's, like, 'Oh, I know Beach Road. They said they had to take a bite out of Beach Road as soon as it was up for sale and potential demolition. The restaurant's faded red and yellow sign will be replaced when the name changes to Beach Road Fish House & Oyster Bar.
