According to a spokesperson for the FWC, the lead agency in the search, FWC and Clay County personnel recovered the body and took it to the Mulberry Cove Boat Ramp at Naval Air Station Jacksonville. Authorities have not yet said if the body found in the river Thursday is 20-year-old Michael Vaughn III, of St. Augustine, who disappeared on the river last week. But a family friend told News4Jax it’s him. The search began when an off-duty police officer spotted the boat spinning aimlessly in a circle in the St. Johns River just before 8 a.m.

The state agency told News4Jax the meeting was held with the contractor overseeing a construction project that will install new signs above the bridge. The state Department of Transportation said the contractor’s name is Florida Safety Contractors, and there was an issue with a subcontractor, which was responsible for debris removal. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two people died and another was injured in a crash Wednesday afternoon on the Buckman Bridge, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The crash, which happened about 1:15 p.m., shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 295 on the bridge for nearly three hours. Previous Buckman Bridge crashesIn March 2015, a woman and three children were killed in a fiery crash on the Buckman Bridge. In 2014, a car went off the Buckman Bridge into the river, killing the driver. In 2010, a woman was killed when her SUV went off the Buckman Bridge and into the river after being struck by an impaired driver.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A child was critically injured and two adults suffered minor injuries in a Thursday evening crash on the Buckman Bridge, the Florida Highway Patrol said. According to the Highway Patrol, a Jeep Wrangler was traveling south on Interstate 295 in the outside lane of the Buckman Bridge about 8 p.m. when it struck the rear of a disabled vehicle in that lane. The Highway Patrol report noted the disabled vehicle, a Honda Pilot, had its emergency flashers on. Troopers said a 7-year-old Georgia boy in the Pilot was critically injured and driver of the Pilot, a 40-year-old Georgia man, suffered minor injuries. The Highway Patrol report shows the driver of the Wrangler, a 34-year-old Jacksonville man, was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with minor injuries and was cited with careless driving.
