JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Six days after the U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search for a boater who disappeared on the St. Johns River last week, a body was discovered Thursday in the water north of the Buckman Bridge. According to a spokesperson for the FWC, the lead agency in the search, FWC and Clay County personnel recovered the body and took it to the Mulberry Cove Boat Ramp at Naval Air Station Jacksonville. Authorities have not yet said if the body found in the river Thursday is 20-year-old Michael Vaughn III, of St. Augustine, who disappeared on the river last week. But a family friend told News4Jax itโs him. The search began when an off-duty police officer spotted the boat spinning aimlessly in a circle in the St. Johns River just before 8 a.m.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ One person was hurt Tuesday morning in a crash on the Buckman Bridge, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the crash was reported shortly before 7:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the bridge, blocking traffic in the two right lanes. Lanes reopened by 10 a.m. Jacksonville Fire Rescue said four to five cars were involved in the crash and one person was rushed to the hospital with traumatic injuries.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a capsized boat late Wednesday afternoon near the Buckman Bridge, and the operator of that boat has not been located. Fire and Rescue said the vessel struck one of the pilings under the Buckman and capsized north of the bridge. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ There has been a noticeable accumulation of trash on the Buckman Bridge in recent weeks, and the Florida Department of Transportation held a meeting Tuesday morning to discuss cleaning it up. The state agency told News4Jax the meeting was held with the contractor overseeing a construction project that will install new signs above the bridge. The state Department of Transportation said the contractorโs name is Florida Safety Contractors, and there was an issue with a subcontractor, which was responsible for debris removal. After Tuesdayโs meeting, the DOT told News4Jax โcorrective action will be taken.โNews4Jax was first tipped off to the trash across the bridge by a viewer who sent an email, writing, โThe amount of trash on the bridge is pitiful. If itโs peopleโs ladder or wood or things like that, that can do damage, as well,โ said driver Caren Sandusky.

The crash happened on westbound Interstate 295 just before 6:30 p.m. and involved multiple vehicles. The person was removed from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to JFRD. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A child was critically injured and two adults suffered minor injuries in a Thursday evening crash on the Buckman Bridge, the Florida Highway Patrol said. According to the Highway Patrol, a Jeep Wrangler was traveling south on Interstate 295 in the outside lane of the Buckman Bridge about 8 p.m. when it struck the rear of a disabled vehicle in that lane. The Highway Patrol report noted the disabled vehicle, a Honda Pilot, had its emergency flashers on. Troopers said a 7-year-old Georgia boy in the Pilot was critically injured and driver of the Pilot, a 40-year-old Georgia man, suffered minor injuries. The Highway Patrol report shows the driver of the Wrangler, a 34-year-old Jacksonville man, was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with minor injuries and was cited with careless driving.
