Flatt, with the Sheriff’s Office, the motorcyclist was a woman who was believed to be in her 20s. Two other vehicles involved in the crash remained at the scene, Flatt said. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A young man was critically injured in a crash Thursday night in the University Park area of Arlington, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The crash was reported around 9 p.m. on University Boulevard at Primrose Lane. JSO said the young man appeared to be in his 20s. A witness told police that the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on University Boulevard North when the driver lost control and crashed head-on into the tree on the opposite side of the road. No one else was in the SUV, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Both westbound lanes of the Matthews Bridge were closed Tuesday evening due to a crash, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. JSO said traffic was being diverted at University Boulevard. It’s unclear how long it would be before lanes were expected to reopen.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The state fire marshal ordered the power to be cut at 5 p.m. Thursday at a Zen Living Suites Extended Stay due to issues that need to be fixed. About a month ago, tenants were given hours to vacate after the fire marshal and code enforcement found unsafe conditions during an inspection. Code enforcement once again inspected the motel from room-to-room, and while it was not shut down, it was issued a stop work order. The fire marshal said water was coming out of electrical sockets and that power needed to be shut off to fix the issue. Its unclear when people will be able to stay in the extended stay again.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Dozens of people renting rooms at the Zen Living Suites near University Boulevard and Interstate 95 were told they had to vacate by 5 p.m. Tuesday because code enforcement deemed the entire property unsafe to live. While some made arrangements to go to another motel that may cost more to stay, others said they are now homeless. News4Jax saw groups of people lined up at the front office to be refunded for rent that they paid in advance. Ailsa Mattox told News4Jax she was not only living at the Zen Living Suites but working there, as well. Despite the conditions at the motel, she said it was the most affordable option for them.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Clerks at the Speedway gas station on University Boulevard in Arlington said a pickup truck with the gate down backed through the glass front doors about 4:20 a.m. and tried to steal the ATM, but couldnt move it because it was too heavy. The potential crooks parked the truck next door and ran off before the police arrived, leaving a scratched and dented pickup behind. Speedway surveillance cameras recorded the incident and that video is being reviewed by police. Clerks are cleaning up the broken glass and the store remained closed at 9 a.m. The pickup was hauled away as evidence.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A Jacksonville Sheriffs Officer and the driver of a Chevrolet truck both were both injured in a crash on University Boulevard Saturday evening. According to JSO, just after 6 p.m. the officer was driving eastbound on University Boulevard and attempted to turn left into a business. The driver of the Silverado was heading west and did not see the officer turning. Both the officer and the other driver were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. As of 8 p.m. one eastbound lane of University Boulevard was closed while traffic homicide detectives investigated the crash.

Officers responding to a shooting about 5:40 p.m. near University Boulevard North and Michigan Avenue found a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire, the Sheriff’s Office said. The shooting victim, described as a woman in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. Afterward, police received a 911 call from an individual who said they were involved in the shooting. "That just goes to show you there are people in need and we are very excited they are here," Monford said. ORANGE PARK, Fla. - A Clay County woman is fighting for her life after a tragic crash while she was merging onto Interstate 295. The crash happened as it was raining June 13 at the on-ramp from U.S. 17 where drivers merge onto the Buckman Bridge. Manges' mother, Mary, said her daughter hydroplaned at the end of the ramp and wound up in the middle of traffic on I-295. Manges said it's the fourth traffic crash at the intersection in the past month. She's going to get better, (and) I'm going to take it one day at a time."
