Woman found dead in hotel in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are trying to figure how a woman died Monday evening at the Hawthorne Inn and Suites on Baymeadows Road. Someone called 911 about 6 p.m. to report a person in one of the hotel rooms was injured. When officers got there they found a dead woman who had “unknown injuries.”While the cause of her death is unclear, investigators said foul play is possible. Officers interviewed people at the scene and are looking for surveillance video. Jacksonville police were called to the area when a passerby spotted a body. Detectives did say how the person died, leaving that up to the medical examiner, but they do suspect foul play.

Jacksonville man hit by car in overnight crash on Philips Highway
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 32-year-old Jacksonville man was struck by a car early Wednesday morning on the city’s Southside. The collision happened shortly after 1 a.m. on Philips Highway near Baymeadows Road, according to a crash report released by the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the unnamed pedestrian was standing in the left lane of Philips Highway when he was hit by a northbound sedan and knocked into the center lane. The pedestrian suffered critical injuries, troopers said. Neither the sedan’s 55-year-old driver nor its 26-year-old passenger was hurt.

Person killed in early morning crash on exit from I-295 to Baymeadows Road
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A person was killed in a crash which occurred near the exit ramp from the Beltway northbound to Baymeadows Road Monday morning shortly before 5:30. JFRD: Fire at Southside apartment complex
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a fire at the Princeton Square Apartments off Baymeadows Road around 6:45 Sunday morning. JFRD says it found and carried out a dog during its search of the burning building. Very quickly, responding crew members confirmed that the apartment was clear. Within minutes, crews announced that the fire was under control. Assistance from the Red Cross was requested for an adult and two children.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A four-story apartment building under construction on Jacksonville’s Southside burned to the ground before dawn Sunday morning in a fire that kept the eastbound lanes of Baymeadows Road blocked at Interstate 295 all morning. Flames from the Fusion Apartment at Baymeadows being built along Baymeadows Road East spread to woods but the fire was stopped before it could spread into the neighboring Hampton Park neighborhood. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Chief Keith Powers said 14 engines and seven ladder trucks were needed to battle the three-alarm fire. The only thing left standing by daybreak was the concrete-block stairwell in the center of the building. First thing I said is that’s the new apartments going up in flames,” said Wilkes.
