FHP said a black SUV was travelling east in the westbound lanes. A white Volkswagen was traveling eastbound when they both collided shortly after 8:30 p.m. The FHP did not release their names, but said next of kin had been notified. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A cyclist was critically injured Monday in a crash involving a semi-truck on U.S. 301, authorities said. The collision happened shortly before 4 p.m. on U.S. 301 just north of where it meets Interstate 10, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers told News4Jax the cyclist was rushed to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. It wasn’t immediately clear Monday afternoon how the crash occurred.

GLEN ST. MARY, Fla. – A car drove off Interstate 10 just east of the Glen St Mary exit in Baker County at midday Wednesday and went into Little St. Marys River. The driver, a woman who troopers believe may have had a medical issue behind the wheel, was rescued from the water and treated at the scene. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman is searching for the good Samaritans who she said saved her life after a crash this month. “They were young kids, and I just want to shake their hands and hug them or just thank them for saving my life,” Robin Sims told News4Jax. “Someone kept on swerving in and out of the lanes, and my truck didn’t have really good brakes,” she recalled. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two people were injured in a shooting early Tuesday evening in the Lackawanna neighborhood, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said. Police said they found an adult suffering from non-life-threatening wounds as a result of gunfire. A short time later, according to police, another adult walked into a hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries stemming from the same incident. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The State Attorney’s Office on Tuesday released body camera videos that revealed more details about three police shootings that happened within the last year in Jacksonville. The State Attorney’s Office also released a video showing the November 2019 shooting of wanted burglary suspect Timothy Lagonia. In the video, Lind said he hit Lagonia in the neck and the back. “He’s got a gun, gun, gun,” yelled Matthews as he was chasing Wilkes. All three of the men involved in the police shootings survived and each of the shootings has been ruled justified by the State Attorney’s Office.

Three fast-spreading California wildfires sent people fleeing Saturday, with one trapping campers at a reservoir in the Sierra National Forest, as a brutal heat wave pushed temperatures into triple digits in many parts of state. The wildfire burning near Shaver Lake exploded to 56 square miles (145 square kilometers), jumped a river and compromised the only road into the Mammoth Pool Campground, national forest spokesman Dan Tune said. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) said the fire scorched at least 1.5 square miles (3.9 square kilometers) and was burning at a moderate to dangerous rate of spread. A small community south of Alpine in the Cleveland National Forest was ordered to evacuate. The blazes have burned more than 1.5 million acres (2,343 square miles).

A deadly crash shut down all lanes of Interstate 10 in Columbia County for hours Monday morning. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 13-year-old girl from Moblie, Alabama died in the crash. The crash involved a tractor-trailer and another vehicle on eastbound I-10 near U.S. 441, which was reported shortly after 11:15 a.m., according to FHP. The 36-year-old female driver of the car and a 15-year-old female passenger, also from Mobile, also suffered serious injuries and were taken to a Gainesville hospital. According to FHP’s investigation, for reasons yet to be determined, the car struck the truck in the rear with it’s front.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As Jacksonville continues to grow, roadway construction along Interstate 10 is underway to keep up with all that growth. According to the Florida Department of Transportation, one of the key goals is to relieve traffic back-ups and congestion along that busy stretch of highway. Part of the scope of work includes fixing and rebuilding ramps and their connections, demolishing and upgrading the overpass and creating more safe space for people to exit I-10 onto U.S. 301. With all the growth Jacksonville and its neighboring counties have seen in recent years, this roadway construction project is long overdue. But while work is underway, drivers can look forward to new ramps, a safer overpass and more space for vehicles to safely access U.S. 301 without causing major back-ups on I-10.

An Amber Alert was issued Monday morning for a 5-year-old girl from Madison, a small town off Interstate 10 east of Tallahassee. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said Naomi Herring was last seen on Southwest Old St. Augustine Road. Naomi was described by authorities as white, about 3 feet tall and 35 pounds. She has brown eyes and long, brown hair. Naomi was last seen wearing a black and yellow bumble-bee dress and blue shorts with a fruit print.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Construction crews are close to finishing operational improvements and enhancements on the interchange at Interstate 95 and Interstate 10, the Fuller Warren Bridge, and along the east side of U.S.17 north bound between McDuff Avenue and Rosselle Street. The project, which started in February 2017 could be finished in a little less than a year, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. and the creation of a shared use path, which is being referred to as the pedestrian bridge south of the Fuller Warren. The shared use path is an essential component of construction for improving safety for pedestrians and bicyclists. We always want to promote safer ways to travel and easier ways to travel and reduce congestion and I just think its a great thing for those communities.

Motorists traveling from Alabama into Florida on Interstate 10 will no longer face being stopped for COVID-19 checks. The Florida Department of Transportation announced Friday that a checkpoint east of the Florida-Alabama border is being deactivated as part of Gov. A similar checkpoint on Interstate 95 north of Jacksonville remains in place. New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Louisiana were targeted because they were hotspots for the virus. The state has collected nearly 28,000 traveler forms at the I-10 checkpoint, the Department of Transportation said Friday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A man has died after he was involved in a high-speed police pursuit on Interstate 10 on Tuesday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office. Officer Christian Hancock said police responded to calls about an erratic driver in a parking lot off of I-95 and Lem Turner Road. According to Hancock, when officers tried to make contact with the driver, he drove off at a high-rate of speed. Officers followed the man as he drove southbound on I-95 and then continued onto I-10 headed west. Hancock said officers pulled the man from his car and performed life-saving procedures, but the man died at the scene.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Firefighters are battling a pair of wildfires in the Panhandle that have consumed more than 2,500 acres, closed a portion of Interstate 10 and destroyed structures. JFRD Battalion Chief Trace Barrow told News4Jax on Thursday the firefighters haven’t slept since they got the call at 10 p.m. Wednesday that they would be traveling to the Panhandle. On Thursday, JFRD said, firefighters worked to put out structure fires near Milton, Florida, where the Five Mile Swamp Fire raged. “I know that just the area that we that our crews have worked, at least 10 to 12 residential houses were destroyed, completely destroyed," Barrow said. For Barrow, the hardest part is seeing families return to their now unrecognizable homes.

SWUANEE COUNTY, Fla. – Two teens from St. Johns County passed away Saturday morning in a crash on Interstate 10 in Suwannee County. An investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol showed the sedan the teens were driving west about 10:45 a.m. between I-95 and Live Oak drifted slightly into the grassy median. Investigators believe the driver, an 18-year-old boy, over-corrected, resulting in the car traveling off of the road and hitting a tree. Both the driver and a 16-year-old female passenger died at the scene. Neither were wearing seat belts, according to the report.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Three people were killed Friday night in two separate traffic incidents in Jacksonville. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an adult and a 3-year-old child were killed in a single-car crash. The vehicle veered off the road, crashed through a guard rail, and flipped over onto its left-side. The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. and drew a response from Florida Highway Patrol, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Around the same time, FHP reported that a pedestrian was struck and killed while walking in the 9800 block of Baymeadows Road, near Southside Boulevard.

Dust blown from several freshly plowed fields near Interstate 10 in Madison and Suwanee counties due to Thursday’s gusty winds dropped visibility to near zero and forced the Florida Highway Patrol detour traffic off the highway for hours. I-10 was closed both directions for part of Madison and Suwanne counties between the 263 and 271 mile markers from before noon until 5:15 p.m. Morning Show meteorologist Richard Nunn said the high winds were part of a line of severe storms moving across the state from the west. Sustained wind gusts of 20 mph are expected in the afternoon and gusts could reach 35 mph.

Two of three westbound lanes of Interstate 10 were closed for several hours after a crash at Chaffee Road. The Florida Highway Patrol said Dennis Walton, 68, of Jacksonville, died after his Kia Soul left I-10 at 10:40 a.m. and landed in a culvert. Troopers said the driver’s side of the Kia first struck the guard rail off the left side of the highway and was directed to the right, where it left the road and struck the concrete draining system. Walton died at the scene. Sky 4 aerials showed a pickup truck towing a trailer jackknifed and a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office cruiser with rear-end damage both on the highway just past the fatal crash but troopers said that was from a secondary accident.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A veteran captain with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was seriously injured Sunday morning when the fire engine he was driving crashed and overturned on Interstate 10 near Lenox Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Interim JFRD Chief Keith Powers said prior to the crash, Rescue 32 had responded to a call about a patient with breathing issues. A 911 call came in at 9:01 a.m. notifying authorities that a JFRD engine had hydroplaned and overturned. "Everybody is well trained to drive any apparatus if they are a member of JFRD," Wyse said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department truck crashed on I-10 eastbound near Lenox Avenue just after 9 a.m. Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The FHP said the driver, Daniel Arms, 53, suffered minor injuries in the crash. Troopers said the Jacksonville Fire truck was heading eastbound on Interstate 10, west of Lenox Avenue when the driver lost control of the truck, which caused it to veer right. The FHP report shows the firetruck went hit the guardrail, went through it and onto the grass shoulder, where it overturned. The driver was the only one in the firetruck when it overturned and no one else was hurt.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - As part of the Interstate 10/Interstate 95 Operational Improvements project, I-95 northbound at the Fuller Warren Bridge will be detoured from 10:30 p.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Saturday as crews place beams on the I-95 northbound to I-10 westbound ramp, the Florida Department of Transportation said. Drivers traveling north on I-95 will be detoured to the downtown exit ramps and onto the Acosta Bridge. From the Acosta Bridge, traffic will take a right onto Broad Street and then a left onto Adams Street, where traffic can travel north on I-95 or west on I-10. As part of the detour for I-10 westbound traffic and the alternate detour for I-95 northbound traffic, drivers will be directed to the downtown exit ramps and onto the Acosta Bridge. From the Acosta Bridge traffic, drivers will take a left on Riverside Avenue and then a left onto Forest Street, where traffic can take I-10 westbound or I-95 northbound.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Two men were arrested Friday after police said they carjacked a woman in her Lakeshore driveway and then sparked a chase down Interstate 10. Louis Cooper, 21, and Davareio Mack, 22, are charged with armed carjacking and resisting police without violence. The report said the men then got her keys and took off in her Jeep with her phone inside. The two then led police on a chase, reaching over 110 mph, on I-10 until a PIT maneuver stopped the vehicle near U.S. 301. the arrest report shows. "Exhaustive efforts were made to take them into custody, after committing a violent felony," the arrest report reads.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – All lanes of Interstate 10 eastbound traffic of Interstate 295 were closed about 11 a.m. as Jacksonville firefighters dealt with an overturned tanker-trailer carrying what they believed was a load of a hazardous gas. News4Jax was told the rig was leaking only oil, but Jacksonville Fire-Rescue was proceeding cautiously because the vehicles hazardous materials signage said the tanker was full of hexene, a colorless gas that is considered highly flammable. At least a dozen Jacksonville Fire-Rescue units were called to the scene, including its hazardous materials team. News4Jax was told that another tanker would be brought in to offload the gas, but once firefighters determined the tanker was full of a cleaning product, that will not be necessary. Just after noon, two of three eastbound lanes were reopened, although the exit to I-295 remained closed to traffic until the tanker was righted and the scene cleared.
