Police: Fleeing bank robber fires at officers, collides with truck

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ€“ A young girl and her grandfather were hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after colliding with a car driven by a suspected bank robber, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโ€™s Office. Cheyenne Meyer, public information officer with the Sheriffโ€™s Office, said that around 4:30 p.m. officers were called to 103rd Street near the intersection of McManus Drive in reference to a bank robbery. She said an armed man entered the bank, brandished a firearm and demanded money from employees, who complied with the manโ€™s demands. She said officers began pursuing the vehicle, which was going in and out of oncoming traffic. โ€œJust out of nowhere a white car... it hits a blue truck almost head on,โ€ Boyle said.

More than 500 shot in Jacksonville so far this year

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ€“ More than 500 people have been shot in Jacksonville so far this year, according to News4Jax records. The city reached the grim milestone Wednesday evening when Jacksonville police found a man with a gunshot wound in the area of Ricker Road and 103rd Street. Several hours later, two teenage boys were shot in the parking lot of a hotel on 103rd Street near Interstate 295, bringing the number of people shot in 2020 to 502. According to the Jacksonville Sheriffโ€™s Office, the teens told police they were standing in the parking lot early Thursday morning when a vehicle pulled up and at least one person inside started shooting at them. In 2019, there were 389 people shot in Jacksonville.

2 teens injured in drive-by shooting at Jacksonville hotel

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ€“ Two teenage boys are recovering in the hospital after they were shot early Thursday morning, police said. Police said their families were inside their respective hotel rooms when the shooting happened around 3:40 a.m. The boys ran inside the hotel office for help after the shooting. Investigators are working with a witness and to access surveillance footage the hotel might have in order to identify the vehicle involved. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ€“ Two men were killed early Saturday morning when their car slammed into a concrete traffic pole at the intersection of 103rd Street and Ricker Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Troopers said the car was speeding eastbound on 103rd Street when the driver lost control and hit the pole. Man accused of taking upskirt photos in Jacksonville supermarkets

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ€“ Over the last two months, women have reported a man following them in Jacksonville supermarkets and using cellphones to take photos under their dresses, according to police reports. Three incidents happened in September and October at the Publix location off 103rd Street and another incident occurred at the Publix location off Duval Station Road, according to the incident reports from the Jacksonville Sheriffโ€™s Office. On one occasion, according to one of the reports, the man possibly left in a small white SUV. News4Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson said, the better the description, the better the chances of the man getting caught. Another incident report shows there are photos of the man, who has not been identified, at the Publix off 103rd Street, but those have not been released by police at this time.

Motorcyclist critically injured in crash on 103rd Street, troopers say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ€“ A motorcyclist was critically injured in a crash Saturday evening on 103rd Stree near Ken Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said. According to the Highway Patrol, a sedan was traveling west in the right lane of 103rd Street around 11:15 p.m. when a motorcyclist slowed on westbound 103rd Street to make a right turn. Troopers said the sedan failed to maintain a safe following distance and collided with the rear of the motorcycleThe motorcyclist, a 64-year-old Jacksonville man, suffered critical injuries, troopers said. The Highway Patrol report shows he was not wearing a helmet. The Highway Patrol said the driver of the sedan, a 57-year-old Middleburg mam, was not injured.

Farm Share distributes 30K pounds of food to Jacksonville families in need

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ€“ Farm Share partnered with city leaders to host two food drives Saturday. In total, nearly 30,000 pounds of food was distributed to hundreds of Jacksonville families. Boil water advisory lifted for parts of Duval, Oakleaf Plantation

A precautionary boil water advisory that was issued following a water main break Friday on 103rd Street has been lifted, JEA announced Sunday. The utility said crews isolated the water main and restored service to affected customers. Teen arrested in deadly Westside shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A 17-year-old has been charged with murder in a deadly shooting July 11 on Jacksonvilles Westside, police said. A witness told News4Jax a man was fatally shot before stumbling into the parking lot of the Take 5 Oil Change at the corner of 103rd Street and Tampico Road, which is east of 1-295. Police said the man died at a hospital. Investigators later identified the suspected shooter as Calvin Lamont Griffin, 17, and he was charged with second-degree murder Friday. Police have not released the name of the victim, but JSOs homicide database shows that he was 23 years old.

FHP: Fatal crash on I-295 shut down lanes for hours

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on I-295 near 103rd Street on Jacksonvilles Westside around 10:00 Saturday night. Responding crews reported that one person died in an accident that involved at least one vehicle. All northbound lanes on I-295 were shut down for several hours. Traffic was diverted onto 103rd street. All lanes have since been cleared and reopened.

1 killed in shooting outside Westside business

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A man was fatally shot Saturday before stumbling into the parking lot of a business on Jacksonvilles Westside, a witness told News4Jax. According to the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office, the shooting was reported outside the Take 5 Oil Change at the corner of 103rd Street and Tampico Road, which is east of 1-295. The witness said they heard a single gunshot and then saw a man whod been shot stumble into the parking lot of the business. The witness said bystanders tried to help the man until rescue arrived, but the man died at the hospital. Jacksonville police looking for missing 11-year-old girl

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The Jacksonville Sheriffs Office is asking for help locating a missing 11-year-old girl they said was last seen around 4 p.m. Monday on the Westside near 103rd Street. According to police, Kimberly Aguilar might be traveling in a green SUV (pictured below) heading toward Orlando. Shes described as 5-feet tall and weighs about 100 pounds. She might be wearing a gray Spongebob shirt, gray tights with a pink stripe and white and gray sneakers. If seen, call the Sheriffs Office at 904-630-0500.

Jacksonville police seeking identity of video voyeurism suspect

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ€“ The Jacksonville Sheriffโ€™s Office has released surveillance images in the hopes the public can identify a man suspected of video voyeurism. According to the Sheriffโ€™s Office, the man is accused of recording video under the victimโ€™s clothing March 1 at a business along 103rd Street on the cityโ€™s Westside. Grainy surveillance images provided by police show a man with short hair in a light-colored T-shirt. Anyone with information on the manโ€™s identity is asked to contact the Sheriffโ€™s Office at 904-630-0500 or by email at JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org. FHP: Pedestrian struck, killed on 103rd Street

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an SUV on Monday night on Jacksonvilles Westside, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash happened about 9:15 p.m. on 103rd Street near Kinkaid Road. The Highway Patrol said a 68-year-old Jacksonville man was attempting to cross 103rd Street when he was hit by an SUV traveling in the outside westbound lane. The man was taken to Orange Park Medical Center, where he died, troopers said. The driver of the SUV, a 48-year-old Jacksonville woman, was reportedly uninjured.

FHP: 1 dead, 1 critically injured when car cut off motorcycle

Published: May 18, 2020, 6:36 am Updated: May 18, 2020, 7:03 amJACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ€“ A 38-year-old woman has died after being thrown off a motorcycle Sunday night, according to a Florida Highway Patrol crash report. The driver of the motorcycle, a 43-year-old man, was also thrown off and suffered life-threatening injuries. The front of the motorcycle hit the right side of the Honda and both riders were thrown from the bike. They were rushed to Orange Park Medical Center where the woman died from her injuries. The motorcycle driver is still listed in critical condition.

3 injured in Westside crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ€“ Three people were hospitalized with minor injuries after a crash Monday afternoon on the Westside, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said. The crash happened about 1 p.m. at 103rd Street and Blanding Boulevard. A woman who witnessed the wreck said it was terrifying to see. The Sky 4 helicopter flew over the crash. The video shows smoke coming out of one of the vehicles.

Police: Employees shot, robbed in holdup at Taco Bell on 103rd Street

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ€“ One employee was shot and another was robbed late Monday night at a Taco Bell on the Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโ€™s Office. The employee who was shot was taken to the hospital but is expected to survive. According to police, a man entered the restaurant on 103rd street, west of Interstate 295, just before 11:30 p.m. to rob the business. During that holdup, the employee was shot then another employee was individually robbed. The Taco Bell is believed to have surveillance cameras and images from Florida Department of Transportation cameras posted throughout 103rd street could help police identify the criminal.
