Reward increased in unsolved murders of 2 Jacksonville women
The reward for information to help solve the murders of two women -- one from 2015 and one from last summer -- has increased to $9,500 due to a partnership between the Florida Association of Crime Stoppers and the Florida Office of Attorney General.
Woman found dead in hotel in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Police are trying to figure how a woman died Monday evening at the Hawthorne Inn and Suites on Baymeadows Road. Someone called 911 about 6 p.m. to report a person in one of the hotel rooms was injured. When officers got there they found a dead woman who had โunknown injuries.โWhile the cause of her death is unclear, investigators said foul play is possible. Officers interviewed people at the scene and are looking for surveillance video. Man found dead in house on Jacksonvilleโs Eastside
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man about 40 years old was found dead Monday morning in his home on Franklin Street, and the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said his injuries leads them to suspect he was killed. The house is near the intersection of Martin Luther King Parkway and Phoenix Avenue, not far from Long Branch ElementaryThe manโs brother, who also lives in the house, found him laying on the floor with a stone in his right hand. โI thought maybe he got drunk and passed out or something, but no, he was dead,โ he said. Man killed in shooting in Jacksonvilleโs Springfield neighborhood
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man was killed in a shooting Saturday night in the cityโs historic Springfield neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office. Around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Sheriffโs Office, police and the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a report of a shooting on 7th Street West near Silver Street and found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound. At some point, according to JSO, the gun was fired and the victim was shot and killed. At this point, police donโt know if the shooting was intentional or accidental, according to the Sheriffโs Office. The Sheriffโs Office said it believes this was an isolated incident.
JSO: Man arrested over deadly stabbing on Jacksonvilleโs Southside
Christopher Kreighbaum, 32, was arrested by JSO for the deadly stabbing off of Hodges Blvd early Saturday morning. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office arrested a man in connection to a deadly stabbing in a wooded area off Beach Boulevard near Hodges Boulevard Saturday morning. Christopher Kreighbaum, 32, was arrested for the death Saturday night, less than 24 hours after the incident. Middleburg man accused of killing brother is former pastor
MIDDLEBURG, Fla. โ Detectives with the Clay County Sheriffโs Office have arrested John Ward Gill, charging him with murder in the shooting death of his brother on Sunday. John Gill, 63, was transported to the Orange Park Medical Center with self-inflicted injuries that were not life-threatening. The Sheriffโs Office said this appeared to be a case of domestic violence. โOur thoughts and prayers go out to the Gill family,โ Public Affairs Officer Andrew Ford wrote in announcing details of the case. News4Jax has learned that John Gill is a former pastor.
Man killed overnight at Calloway Cove; 4th killed there this week
AdโItโs sad because right now, itโs just a no-win situation,โ said one man who told News4Jax heโs not surprised at the violence. โThat comes from, in my opinion, the one home family, because everybody is a follower now,โ the man said. โThereโs crime all over Duval County, but in this particular area, it seems to resonate over the years,โ Jefferson said. All five homicides in Jacksonville this week have been in the 32209 ZIP code: the four at Calloway Cove and one on Iris Boulevard, only three blocks away.
Arrest made in first homicide of 2020
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Police have charged a 27-year-old man with third-degree murder in a Jan. 3, 2020 double shooting on West 12th Street near Canal Street. Malik Brown, 18 was killed and a second man was wounded in what police believed was a robbery. Brown was a former Robert E. Lee High School football player who was attending Warner University and had a 1-month-old son. Daniel Denyasha, the man wounded in the shooting, was arrested Monday and charged with third-degree murder. He told police he thought he hit one of them.

Police investigate after a deadly shooting Jan. 26 at the intersection of Wrico and Ken Knight Drive in Northwest Jacksonville. He was killed near Ken Knight Drive on Jan 26th. He said if someone had alerted JSO to the social media posts ahead of time, the murder might have been prevented. In addition to suspect information, police are looking for additional posts or social media videos that could help.
Man found dead outside motel off Baymeadows Road
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found dead Monday morning outside the Kings Inn Hotel on Dix Ellis Trial, which runs off Baymeadows Road near Interstate 95. Jacksonville police were called to the area when a passerby spotted a body. Detectives did say how the person died, leaving that up to the medical examiner, but they do suspect foul play.
Records suggest shooting that killed Jacksonville teen was retaliation
Wyche was found dead March 19, 2020, by police called to a shooting near Portsmouth Avenue and Norfolk Boulevard, one of five killings in Jacksonville that week. AdPolice said at the time that a grey car was seen pulling up in front of Wycheโs vehicle before two men got out and opened fire with an AK-47. Roland Ball and Xavion Porter both face murder charges in connection with 17-year-old Inandi Wyche's killing. According to a redacted copy of Ballโs arrest warrant, the 21-year-old was identified as one of the individuals involved in Wycheโs killing, a deadly shooting that police believe was retaliation for the shooting of Daquan Saxton. Saxton, 20, was killed March 17, 2020, in a shooting that took place three blocks away.

Man charged with murder in killing of woman at Normandy Park
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of a young woman who was found shot to death Monday morning at Normandy Park, the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office announced Tuesday. He said she had been trying to leave an abusive relationship with a man named Deiondre Lewis. Police confirmed Tuesday that Lewis had been charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a concealed firearm in connection with the shooting. Nov. 13: 54-year-old Terrion McQueen is shot and killed while sitting in her SUV outside a friendโs house in Oakleaf. Her ex-boyfriend has been charged with her murder after her 2018 shooting death on Fort Campbell in Kentucky.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A woman in her 20s was found shot to death Monday morning at Normandy Park, according to Jacksonville Fire and Rescue. A weapon and other evidence were located between where the victim was found and where the subject was taken into custody. โThe witnesses provided a clothing and a physical description and the general area which he fled on foot,โ JSO homicide Sgt. Her uncle, Timothy Williams, identified the victim as TaโLiyah Williams. Tuesday morning the Sheriffโs Office identified the suspect, Deiondre Lewis, 22, as the man who was taken into custody.
Naked body with gunshot found in plastic container in pond
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Police called to a Windy Hill neighborhood by a man out walking his dog Sunday morning found a plastic container dumped in a retention pond. Inside, police found a naked man dead with a gunshot wound. A Jacksonville homicide detective said the dive team retrieved a gray storage container from the pond on Dalry Drive, east of Southside Boulevard, and only a block from Windy Hill Elementary School. The victim inside was estimated to be between 30-40 years old. The pond is on land owned by the city of Jacksonville and adjoins the Windy Hill Community Center.

Man killed, 7-year-old injured by gunfire at Arlington youth football game
JACKSONVILLE, FLa. โ A man was killed and a 7-year-old boy was injured Sunday evening in a shooting at a football game at an Arlington Athletic Association field next to Arlington Heights Elementary School, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office. The Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said shots were fired just after 6 p.m. Witnesses told police that a grey SUV pulled up to the field, a man wearing a grey hoodie and mask got out of the vehicle and shot at the victims. Multiple shots can be heard on video of the game obtained by News4Jax. Police said both victims were taken to a hospital, where the man died.
Police make arrest in March killing of 15-year-old
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A 20-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder months after a 15-year-old was shot at a Southside apartment complex. The Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said Branden Chau was charged Friday in the March 15 shooting at the Pinebrook Apartments on Powers Avenue. The victim, identified by family as Jaedon Pita, was found lying in a parking lot about 10:30 p.m. He died at a hospital. At the time police said there was an altercation before the shooting, but they didnโt know if the victim knew the shooter or was the intended victim.
Police investigate deadly stabbing at Atlantic Beach home
ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. โ Homicide detectives called to a suspicious death early Monday morning on Redfin Drive at Sailfish Drive said a man was stabbed several times. Police said a resident of the home who called 911 about 1:15 a.m. but didnโt yet know that personโs relationship with the victim. The Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office is assisting the Atlantic Beach police with the investigation. Neighbors told News4Jax the people in that house moved in about a year ago but didnโt know much about them. News4Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson said if this is a domestic killing, it there shouldnโt be a threat to public safety -- but police havenโt said.
Grand jury indicts man in shooting deaths of 3 friends
BARTOW, Fla. โ A grand jury formally charged a 26-year-old man with three counts of first-degree murder in the fatal shootings of three friends who had gathered at a central Florida lake in July for some late night fishing. Prosecutors have 45 days to determine whether to seek the death penalty for Tony ``T.J.'' Wiggins Jr., following the grand juryโs findings late Tuesday, the Ledger reported. He said his brother accused Springfield, who was a mechanic, of taking his truck, reports said. He also told investigators he couldnโt find his sonโs phone because it had fallen between the seats in the truck. Investigators said they found bullets at the home where Wiggins was living that matched the ones fired at the scene, arrest reports said.
JSO: Unborn child dies after pregnant woman shot
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A pregnant woman was shot early Tuesday morning as she slept in her apartment on Kona Avenue, and the womanโs unborn child has died, police said. A Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office spokesman said the woman, in her late 20s, was shot once in the stomach around 1:15 a.m. She was stabilized at the hospital but was reportedly in serious condition. Police said two other people were inside the Golden Shores apartment complex at the time of the shooting. Very sad," said another neighbor, who told News4Jax she met the woman who was pregnant a few months ago. Man dead, 2nd injured in New Town shooting, according to JSO
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A shooting in the back parking lot of a Checkers Drive-In Restaurant on Kings Road left Sunday afternoon left one man dead and one man critically injured, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office. Arriving officers found two men in their early 20s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside their black four-door sedan. JSO is working to identify these men and notify their next of kin. "I think they are just stopping people who are coming through, trying to identify. There are family members that have come towards trying to find out if these are their family members or not.
