TRAFFIC ALERT: Police activity, crash causing delays on I-95 NB near Yulee
Police activity is causing backup on I-95 northbound near the Yulee exit. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Police activity involving about 20 law enforcement vehicles at one point caused major delays on I-95 northbound near the Yulee exit Saturday afternoon. Department of Transportation cameras showed what appeared to be two vehicles surrounded by officers before Fire and Rescue arrived on scene. Firefighters said no one was transported from the scene. The left lane remains blocked by police and emergency vehicles but traffic is flowing slowly.
FHP investigating multi-vehicle crash with critical injuries

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ All northbound lanes on I-95 at Max Leggett Parkway are open again after a crash Friday morning with multiple injuries. The heavily traveled interstate was shut down for about three hours after a crash. At least two people were in critical condition at last check and Jacksonville Fire Rescue confirmed multiple vehicles were involved. A crash report is expected later today or tomorrow.
FHP: 2 killed in wrong-way head-on crash on I-10
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Two people were killed Tuesday night in a head-on collision on Interstate 10 eastbound near Roosevelt Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. FHP said a black SUV was travelling east in the westbound lanes. A white Volkswagen was traveling eastbound when they both collided shortly after 8:30 p.m. The FHP did not release their names, but said next of kin had been notified. News4Jax followed up with FHP to ask how the vehicles collided head-on.

Jacksonville driver killed in crash that blocked I-95 in St. Johns County for hours
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a 38-year-old Jacksonville man died and his 39-year-old passenger was injured Saturday afternoon in a rollover crash on Interstate 95 southbound just south of County Road 210 in St. Johns County. Troopers said the driver was changing lanes near Mile Marker 328 about 4 p.m. when he lost control of his pickup truck and struck the median. For hours, the vehicle could be seen lying on its roof on the highway. blocking all southbound lanes. The scene was cleared and the interstate fully reopened about four hours after the crash.
Flaming garbage truck slowed morning rush on eastbound I-10

The fire appeared to have started before 6:30 a.m. in the cab and was extinguished quickly. Two lanes were blocked while responders towed the truck from the interstate. The scene cleared just after 7 a.m.
Man killed, woman critically injured in motorcycle crash with semi
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A 39-year-old man died and a 42-year-old woman was critically injured when their motorcycle was hit by a tractor-trailer late Thursday night on Interstate 95 northbound at Bowden Road. Florida Highway Patrol said the motorcycle was traveling at a slow speed when the driver changed lanes from the center lane to the outside lane directly in front of the semi. The big rig hit the rear of the motorcycle, causing the bike to flip, throwing the riders onto the outside lane of the highway. The crash report shows both the man and woman on the motorcycle were wearing helmets. The northbound lanes of I-95 reopened just after 4 a.m.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department is on the scene of a traffic accident on I-295 Southbound near U.S.-17 in Orange Park, that is blocking the right lane of traffic. Man missing after falling off fishing boat near Buckman Bridge
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Crews are searching for a 20-year-old man after an empty boat was found Thursday morning near the Buckman Bridge. The boat hit one of the pillars of the bridge, and by the time Jacksonville Fire and Rescue personnel found it, no one was aboard. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Six people, including five minors, were injured Tuesday morning in a crash at the intersection of Cassat Avenue and Normandy Boulevard on Jacksonvilleโs Westside. Brothers among 3 killed in hydroplane crash on Heckscher Drive, family says
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A 16-year-old girl and two 27-year-old men were killed Monday in a weather-related crash on Heckscher Drive, just north of Huguenot Park, the Florida Highway Patrol said. According to the Highway Patrol, the Honda Civic they were in hydroplaned just before 6 p.m. and the 18-year-old driver lost control. Three were killed in a crash on Heckscher Drive near the boat ramp. FHP confirmed crash investigators are looking into whether tire tread or other faulty equipment might have contributed to the weather-related crash. Florida Highway Patrol data show troopers have worked nearly 20,000 traffic crashes in Northeast Florida since January 2019, with over 2,900 of them happening during rainy weather.
St. Augustine Confederate memorial settles in to new home
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. โ A St. Augustine memorial that honors 46 Confederate soldiers has finally been erected at its new home at the Trout Creek Fish Camp in western St. Johns County. It will now sit in front of a pavilion on the fish camp grounds. The contractor hired by the city told News4Jax another layer of concrete will be poured around the memorial Thursday to complete the project. Controversial decisionIn June, the St. Augustine City Commission voted 3-2 in favor of moving the Confederate monument that was built in 1872 in downtown St. Augustine. A statue of Confederate Gen. William Loring that was located feet away was also removed last month.
Barge to deliver Confederate memorial to new home at Trout Creek Fish Camp
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. A Confederate monument that has stood for nearly 150 years in the Plaza de la Constitution is loaded onto a barge Thursday and prepared for an overnight float to its new home at the Trout Creek Fish Camp along the St. Johns River. In June, the St. Augustine City Commission voted 3-2 in favor of moving the Confederate monument that was built in 1872 in downtown St. Augustine. On Wednesday, crews spent time carefully loading the monument onto a dolly system to be moved to the bayfront. St. Johns County Veterans Council held a ceremony on the waterfront Thursday before workers began moving the monument to the barge. The monument -- dolly system and all -- will be loaded onto the barge for the 94-mile trek by water.
JSO: 1 dead, 1 injured after crash at Atlantic Boulevard & Spring Forest Avenue
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man died and another person was injured after a crash Tuesday at Atlantic Boulevard and Spring Forest Avenue, the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said. The crash, which happened just after 11:30 a.m., blocked all lanes of Atlantic Boulevard at the intersection for several hours. According to police, a man was driving north on Spring Forest Avenue when he tried to turn east onto Atlantic Boulevard, failed to clear the intersection and was T-boned by another vehicle. According to the Sheriffโs Office, another person suffered a non-life-threatening injury. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call JSO at 904-630-0500.
Troopers: Scooter rider killed in crash with truck that left scene on Beach Boulevard
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man is dead after a crash Monday night on Beach Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the driver of a scooter was traveling west on Beach, and the driver of a truck was driving from the I-295 southbound entrance ramp onto Beach. They said the driver of the truck collided with the scooter under the overpass, and the driver of the truck left the scene. Troopers did not have a description of the truck driver. All westbound lanes of Beach Boulevard were closed after the crash.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. Race Track Road at Bishop Estates Road is expected to be closed for about four to six hours after a crash, the St. Johns County Sheriffs Office said early Monday afternoon. At least one person suffered significant injuries in the crash, according to deputies. Drivers are asked to find an alternate route if they need to travel in the area. Deputies are investigating.

Even though the worst of the rains are over, any significant rain will add to travel issues and some additional flooding.
Crash shuts down part of Beaver Street
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ At least one person was injured in a crash Sunday afternoon on Beaver Street in the Whitehouse area, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The FHP website shows the crash was reported just after 3:15 p.m. The Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said Beaver Street was shut down between Maple Avenue and Jones Road.
Police: 1 dead, 1 injured in wrong-way crash on Arlington Expressway
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ One person died and another was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a wrong-way crash Sunday morning on Arlington Expressway, the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said. About 8:20 a.m., according to the Sheriffโs Office said, an off-duty officer was traveling west on the Mathews Bridge when he saw a sport utility vehicle traveling east in the westbound lanes. The Sheriffโs Office said the officer turned around in an attempt to stop the SUV, and as the officer approached the SUV, the SUV struck a vehicle on the bridge. The SUV did not stop and continued to travel east in the westbound lanes as the officer continued to try to stop the SUV and called for assistance, police said. The SUV then went underneath the Cesery Boulevard overpass and struck another vehicle head-on as that vehicle was traveling west on Arlington Expressway, the Sheriffโs Office said.
Suspect arrested, after hit-and-run kills 71-year-old St. Johns County woman
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. โ A deadly hit-and-run crash shut down westbound lanes of International Golf Parkway early Friday morning, the St. Johns County Sheriffโs Office said. was hit by a vehicle and killed sometime between 5 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. near International Golf Parkway and Royal Pines Parkway, a Sheriffโs Office spokesman said. Later in the afternoon, deputies approached a residence where the vehicle was located, in search of 32-year-old Daniel Joseph Vickery. After interviewing the suspect, the officers arrested Vickery and seized the vehicle. Though the suspect is in custody, a further investigation is being led into this deadly hit-and-run crash.
FHP: Motorcyclist killed in crash on Dunn Avenue
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A 54-year-old motorcyclist died Sunday afternoon in a crash in the Highlands area of the Northside, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the motorcyclist, John Mason, was headed west on Dunn Avenue near Armsdale Road about 2:45 p.m. when a Chevy Silverado turned left onto Dunn Avenue from Armsdale Road, across the motorcycleโs path. A woman told News4Jax she stopped to help Mason as he was lying in the road. โI knew it was going to happen, and I told my daughter they are not going to put a light there until someone gets killed, and thatโs just what happened," said Jennie Talley, who lives near Dunn Avenue. The crash shut down both directions of Dunn Avenue between Pine Estates Road and Biscayne Boulevard for several hours.

The crash, which happened about 1:15 p.m., shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 295 on the bridge for nearly three hours. Previous Buckman Bridge crashesIn March 2015, a woman and three children were killed in a fiery crash on the Buckman Bridge. In 2014, a car went off the Buckman Bridge into the river, killing the driver. In 2010, a woman was killed when her SUV went off the Buckman Bridge and into the river after being struck by an impaired driver.
