Not a whole lot of room for concerns for West Nassau.
Oakleaf canโt catch up to Tampa Plant in girls hoops state semifinals
The best season in Oakleaf girls basketball history finished two wins short of a state championship. The Knights started fast but cooled off after that in a 69-52 loss to Tampa Plant in the Class 7A state semifinals at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland on Friday afternoon. Nyla Jean led Plant with 26 points. AdOakleaf guard Taliah Scott had 26 points and Fantasia James added 15. Both of those players are sophomores and return in 2022 to try and help to Knights contend for a state championship.

Girls basketball regional finals: Four area teams eye spot in state semifinals
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Four area girls basketball teams have state semifinal berths in sight. Three area teams play at home (Bishop Kenny, Oakleaf and St. Augustine). Region 1-5AAdFort Walton Beach (17-3) at St. Augustine (25-1): The Yellow Jackets just keep right on winning. Another victory would send St. Augustine to the state semifinals for the first time since a trip in 2001. A win would send St. Augustine to the final four where it would face Orlando Jones or Palm Bay on Feb. 25.
Girls high school basketball playoffs: Six games headline second-round slate
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Tuesday night is the second round of the girls high school basketball state playoffs. St. Augustine beat Ponte Vedra 47-29 in the regular season, and then edged the Sharks 49-45 in the district championship. The Trojans won 51-50 in OT this season, 44-38 last season, 54-50 in 2019 and 52-39 in 2018. That sets up a rematch of the district championship game, won 46-35 by the Christians. Man sought in Clay County womanโs death shot, killed by police in Maryland
CLAY COUNTY, Fla. โ Shawn Lequin Braddy, the man who was sought by Clay County deputies in connection to a deadly shooting in Oakleaf, was shot and killed by police Tuesday in Maryland, according to the Sheriffโs Office. Investigators said a Montgomery County police officer was wounded by the suspect. โWe ask that you keep the Montgomery County task force detectives in your prayers,โ interim Chief Hector Velez, with Prince Georgeโs County Police Department, said during a news conference. Marcus Jones, the Montgomery County police chief, said the officer was shot in the upper body. Family members identified the woman killed Monday in Clay County as Tiara McDaniels, 33.

OAKLEAF, Fla. โ Clay County deputies are looking for a man in connection with a deadly shooting Monday in Oakleaf. In a statement, the Clay County Sheriffโs Office said deputies believe Shawn Lequin Braddy was involved in a shooting Monday morning on Grayson Lane in the Oakleaf area. McDanielsโ family said she was at home with her children when the shooting happened. McDaniels had a child with Braddy and filed a domestic violence injunction against him in 2013. Two area high school football playoff games scratched this week due to COVID-19

Baker Countyโs first-round playoff opponent, Panama City Beach Arnold, was forced to forfeit due to COVID-19 issues. Instead of opening the postseason up this week, both Oakleaf and Baker County will have the week off. Baker County will travel to face the winner of the Raines-Westside game next Friday in the Region 1-5A quarterfinals.

911 caller claims he had bomb; Clay County SWAT found no one home
ORANGE PARK, Fla. โ Clay County deputies and a SWAT team spent several hours early Friday morning in an Eagle Landing neighborhood after the Orange Park Police Department received a call about a violent incident in a home and hostages may inside. According to the 911 call, the caller said he had a bomb strapped to his chest and demanded money. โI want $30,000, otherwise Iโm going to blow up the hostages and the entire building with by bombs. โIt appears at this time the call concerning this incident was a prank,โ deputies said in a release Friday afternoon. The SWAT team and their equipment packed up and left.
