Peterson Academies of Technology on the Westside. The three students are enrolled in a diversity, equity and inclusion program that focuses on the field of veterinary medicine. Under the program, the Humane Society partners with Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology to help students interested in a career in veterinary medicine, especially minority students. Humane Society administrators told News4Jax the programโs aim is to create paths for employment -- both in Jacksonville and in the fields of animal welfare and veterinary medicine -- for historically underrepresented populations. Paws & Stripes program for veterans, shelter dogs gets $30K donation
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Farah & Farah law firm and the Jacksonville community raised nearly $30,000 for the Paws & Stripes program for FIVE STAR Veterans Center and the Jacksonville Humane Society. Eddie and Chuck Farah presented the large check to the program on Friday at Intuition Ale Works. The donation was part of a fundraiser that invited community members to purchase a limited-time craft beer, called โFor the Pups, Man,โ -- every pint purchased meant a $4 donation, and Farah & Farah also matched each dollar up to $10,000 from website donations. The Paws & Stripes program provides in-depth volunteer training to post-9/11 service members, teaching them how to work with shelter dogs. Because of the communityโs support, FIVE STAR will be able to assist with future vet bills, secure food and equipment for the dogs, and transport veterans to the program.

Animal lovers can visit the two shelters Dec. 17-24 to be matched with and pick up a furry friend. Winn-Dixie donates over 4,000 pounds of pet food to Jax Humane
Winn-Dixie is doing its part to make sure no pet goes hungry. On Thursday, the supermarket chain donated more than 4,000 pounds of pet food to the Jacksonville Humane Society, which has been struggling to keep its pantry stocked amid the coronavirus pandemic. Now, thanks to Winn-Dixie, the Humane Societyโs supplies are in much better shape. The grocery chain dropped off four pallets of pet food at the organizationโs warehouse. The Jacksonville Humane Societyโs Pet Food Pantry helps feed pets of seniors, veterans and others in the community who are in need.

Jacksonville veteran pleads for return of lost dogs that were adopted
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A Jacksonville veteran is pleading to get his dogs back after learning his canine companions, which were missing, had been adopted. William Ptak said his 5-year-old French poodle named Mignon and his 9-month-old Pitbull mix named Cerbere are his whole world. Ptak returned to the Humane Society and learned two different families adopted his dogs. The Humane Society said it only holds stray animals for seven days.

โAlley Cat Alliesโ gives Humane Society funds for families impacted by COVID-19
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The Jacksonville Humane Society received a $5,000 grant from Alley Cat Allies to support its Pet Safety Net program, which provides resources to families in times of acute crisis. The Humane Society is one of 12 organizations in the nation to receive support from Alley Cat Allies, which has also said that more support will be announced as the crisis evolves. JHS also received support from the organization for Alley Cat Allies Feline Frenzy events, which offered free spay and neuter for community cats in Jacksonville. During seven frenzies between August 2019 to March 2020, a total of 863 cats were altered. โAlley Cat Allies have been true friends to cats and caretakers in Jacksonville,โ said Denise Deisler.

Jaguarsโ Josh Lambo hopes to kickstart dog adoptions

On Friday, the Jaguars kicker announced on Instagram that he was partnering with Fur Sisters, a no-kill dog rescue shelter in Jacksonville Beach, to help dogs find their forever home. Lambo is offering to make it easier on peopleโs wallets if they adopt a new furry friend over the next week. Former defensive tackle Malik Jackson funded 181 pet adoptions in 2017. Another defensive lineman, Sheldon Day, adopted a terrier named, โGloria,โ after sheโd spent 359 days at the humane society.

They originally went there to adopt a kitten when the father spotted the brown and white dog being leashed up to go for a walk, according to a post on the Humane Society's Facebook page. The dog heard his name, ran over to the family and gave them some wet kisses. But his family never lost hope and were excited to bring their furry friend back home. Humane Society workers said cats as young as 4 months can get pregnant, so the sooner a cat is brought in for surgery, the better. For people who have a cat at home and would like to get the feline spayed or neutered, the Humane Society is offering a special price of $25 for now.

Humane Society asks for food pantry donations for dogs, cats
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Humane Society opens a food pantry once a week to help pet owners who are having a hard time affording food for their animals. Donations can be brought to the Humane Society on Beach Boulevard seven days a week, or to make it easier, the Humane Society has set up an Amazon wishlist that will ship the items directly to the shelter. Wet and dry cat food, wet and dry dog food, treats, feeders, leashes and other supplies are all on the list. Florida Humane Society finds homes for 250 animals in one week
