JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Two people were injured in a crash Monday afternoon involving a patrol car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. After the collision, troopers said, the sedan overturned and the driver of the SUV drove to a stop in the outside emergency lane. According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of the SUV, a 29-year-old Jacksonville man, and the driver of the sedan, a 39-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries. The Highway Patrol said the passenger in the sedan, a 3-year-old Jacksonville girl, was not hurt. The news release did not specify which vehicle was the patrol car.
Woman killed in crash that blocked I-295 at Town Center Parkway for hours
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A 28-year-old woman was struck and killed early Monday morning after she hit a guardrail along the entrance ramp to southbound Interstate 295 from Town Center Parkway and then got out of her car, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The report said the woman โexited the vehicle and began to stand on passenger sideโ when an SUV traveling up the ramp to southbound I-295 struck the woman and the sedan. The driver of the SUV, a 58-year-old Jacksonville Beach man, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, troopers said. Due to the deadly crash, all southbound lanes of I-295 at Town Center Parkway for more than four hours, causing heavy delays for morning commuters. But they say also this is 3 in the morning and that needs to be taken into account.
Jacksonville man claims $1 million prize from scratch-off ticket
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A Jacksonville man is nearly $1 million richer after buying a $20 scratch-off lotto ticket. The 36-year-old claimed his prize after playing the 200X The Cash scratch-off game and chose to claim his winnings with a one-time payment of $890,000, according to the Florida Lottery. The winning ticket was purchased from the RaceTrac location on Philips Highway just south of Interstate 295. The store will get a $2,000 bonus commission for selling a winning ticket. The $20 game launched last September and players can vie for the chance to win some of more than $446 million in prizes, which include 10 $5 million prizes.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ One person is dead and four others were hospitalized after a single-vehicle accident Sunday morning, troopers said. According to Florida Highway Patrol, a Kia Sportage was driving south on Interstate 295 just before Lem Turner around 4:15 a.m. when it went off the road, hitting several trees. Troopers said the 22-year-old driver died and the four passengers -- three 19-year-olds and one 20-year-old -- were taken to UF Health with serious injuries. According to the FHP report, itโs unknown whether they were wearing seat belts. Troopers said the crash remains under investigation.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ One person was hospitalized Tuesday after a fiery tractor trailer crash on Jacksonvilleโs Northside. The crash happened shortly after noon on the northbound exit ramp of Interstate 295 at Alta Drive, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. The fire department said the tractor trailer overturned and then caught fire. The crash led to the temporary closure of the entrance and exit ramps.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man and woman were found dead Friday morning in the home off Beaver Street and another man was hospitalized after being shot in the house, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office. Watershed Drive North, in the Whitehouse area west of Interstate 295, was closed due to police activity for several hours. Detectives said a gun was found and they were investigating if this was a murder-suicide, but that was not confirmed. Neighbors said they had seen a man and woman move into the house less than a month ago. โJust seeing everything going on, itโs kind of crazy,โ neighbor Tyrell Wilson said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A bicyclist was fatally struck by a car on Atlantic Boulevard on Monday, the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said. The accident was reported by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department around 7 p.m. According to police, a woman was riding a bicycle across the westbound lanes of Atlantic Boulevard, just west of Interstate 295, when she was hit by a car traveling west. Police said the bicyclist was critically injured when they arrived at the scene. The Sheriffโs Office said two occupants of the car stopped and are cooperating with police.

Man darts in front of SUV on I-295, dies
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man died late Saturday night when he darted in front of an SUV on Interstate 295 at Old St. Augustine Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the 31-year-old man was outside a disabled car about 11:30 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, he left the median and moved in front of the northbound vehicle. He died at the scene. The driver stopped and was cooperating with FHP.
Troopers chase SUV across Buckman Bridge at 100 mph, force crash
The Florida Highway Patrol said the chase began at 7:18 a.m. at Old St. Augustine and I-295 when a trooper spotted a reckless driver going north at 100 mph. That trooper tried to get the driver to pull over, but a chase ensued. A second trooper joined the pursuit as they crossed Buckman Bridge heading toward Orange Park. It was just the flipped car with any damage.โMichael Bennett was also driving across the bridge and saw the whole thing happen. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Thursday on Interstate 295 north of Collins Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said. According to the Highway Patrol, a 2007 GMC pickup truck was traveling south in the left lane of I-295 shortly after 5 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the pickup. Thatโs when, troopers said, the pickup went off the right side of the roadway where it struck a light pole and an interstate sign support pole. Troopers said the driver, a 48-year-old Jacksonville man, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

A Flordia Department of Transportation camera shows the big rig crashed into and damaging the median barrier, but southbound traffic does not appear to be affected. Northbound traffic is at a standstill as the ramp to Wilson, where traffic is being diverted, is not moving. Earlier Tuesday, a police cruiser was involved in a crash on I-295 at Normany, the next exit to the south. One person was injured in that crash, but it was not clear if it was the officer.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man is dead after a crash Monday night on Beach Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the driver of a scooter was traveling west on Beach, and the driver of a truck was driving from the I-295 southbound entrance ramp onto Beach. They said the driver of the truck collided with the scooter under the overpass, and the driver of the truck left the scene. Troopers did not have a description of the truck driver. All westbound lanes of Beach Boulevard were closed after the crash.
Florida to boost electric vehicle charging stations
Ron DeSantis says he cant afford a Tesla, hes all in on adding electric-vehicle charging stations to the states highways. This comes as Floridians and Americans continue to purchase more and more electric vehicles, DeSantis said while at the Turkey Lake Service Plaza in Orlando. EVgo, with the largest network of fast charging stations in the U.S., got three. A total of about $25 million of the states share is supposed to go for charging stations. Last year, the state announced the expansion of privately run charging stations at Florida Turnpike service plazas.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Police are looking for a girl and her father, the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office announced late Thursday evening. According to the Sheriffs Office, the two were said to have left their residence about 5 p.m. in a maroon 2013 Nissan Maxima with Florida tag NMBV83 and headed to an unknown location. Police described the 6-year-old as being 4 feet tall, weighing 60 pounds and having brown eyes and black hair. Her father was described by police as being 6 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 250 pounds and having brown eyes and black hair. The crash happened on westbound Interstate 295 just before 6:30 p.m. and involved multiple vehicles. According to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, one person was trapped in a vehicle following the crash. The person was removed from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to JFRD. Three westbound lanes were shut down while the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office and JFRD worked the crash.
Police: Employees shot, robbed in holdup at Taco Bell on 103rd Street
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ One employee was shot and another was robbed late Monday night at a Taco Bell on the Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office. The employee who was shot was taken to the hospital but is expected to survive. According to police, a man entered the restaurant on 103rd street, west of Interstate 295, just before 11:30 p.m. to rob the business. During that holdup, the employee was shot then another employee was individually robbed. The Taco Bell is believed to have surveillance cameras and images from Florida Department of Transportation cameras posted throughout 103rd street could help police identify the criminal.

Since 2017, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, there have been seven deadly pedestrian crashes on Beach Boulevard between University and Kernan boulevards. Police find man shot in car on I-295 at Old St. Augustine Road
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Police found a man suffering from several gunshot wounds inside a car on the southbound lanes of Interstate 295 near the Old St. Augustine Road exit early Sunday morning. Jacksonville officers called to the scene at 2:12 a.m. found the male victim inside a vehicle. A News4Jax viewer witnessed the scene and sent pictures showing a heavy police presence on the side of the highway. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Aggravated battery detectives are investigating the incident.
Teen shot in foot at Cedar Hills home
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A teenage boy was shot Monday afternoon in the Westside neighborhood of Cedar Hills, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. Officers responded just after 2 p.m. to a shooting on Zapata Drive, near Melvin Road and Interstate 295. Police said they found a 16-year-old boy, who had been shot in the foot, inside the home. Pellot said it's unclear whether the teen was shot inside the home or in the backyard. Child critically injured in Buckman Bridge crash
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A child was critically injured and two adults suffered minor injuries in a Thursday evening crash on the Buckman Bridge, the Florida Highway Patrol said. According to the Highway Patrol, a Jeep Wrangler was traveling south on Interstate 295 in the outside lane of the Buckman Bridge about 8 p.m. when it struck the rear of a disabled vehicle in that lane. The Highway Patrol report noted the disabled vehicle, a Honda Pilot, had its emergency flashers on. Troopers said a 7-year-old Georgia boy in the Pilot was critically injured and driver of the Pilot, a 40-year-old Georgia man, suffered minor injuries. The Highway Patrol report shows the driver of the Wrangler, a 34-year-old Jacksonville man, was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with minor injuries and was cited with careless driving.

Road paving causes I-295 ramp closures this week
Motorists traveling northbound I-295 wishing to exit to Lem Turner Road will detour to Duval Road (Exit 33), return to I-295 and travel south to exit Lem Turner Road. Drivers will detour via Dunn Avenue and use the I-295 southbound entrance ramp. Also, on Tuesday, the I-295 northbound entrance ramp from Duval Road will be closed. On Wednesday, the I-295 northbound and southbound exit ramps to Duval Road will be closed. Drivers will be detoured to Lem Turner Road (Exit 32) and travel east on Dunn Avenue to return to Duval Road.
Police: Disguised men rob Mandarin bank, take off in manager's Infiniti
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Two armed men in disguises robbed a bank in Mandarin late Monday morning and then took off in the bank manager's car, which was later found, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. Police said the robbers then took off in the bank manager's car -- a 2019 silver four-door Infiniti Q50 with light tint. The FBI was notified and responded to scene, as well as the JSO Robbery Unit, Air Unit and K-9 Unit. Boucher said there were five employees and no customers inside at the time of the bank robbery. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - One person was killed and another was wounded in what's believed to be a double shooting Tuesday afternoon outside an apartment complex in the Oak Hill area of the Westside, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. Officers responded about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday to a person shot outside an apartment complex on Morse Avenue near Ridgeview Avenue, just east of Interstate 295. They said they found a male, who had been shot, in the parking lot of the complex. The Sheriff's Office said it was too early to determine whether both males were shooting at each other and hit each other, or if both were shot by someone else. Troopers said 30-year-old Marcel Mendez was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer that left the southbound lanes of I-295 just before 2 a.m., struck a pole and rolled over. Overturned tanker that kept I-10 at I-295 closed wasn't hazardous
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ All lanes of Interstate 10 eastbound traffic of Interstate 295 were closed about 11 a.m. as Jacksonville firefighters dealt with an overturned tanker-trailer carrying what they believed was a load of a hazardous gas. News4Jax was told the rig was leaking only oil, but Jacksonville Fire-Rescue was proceeding cautiously because the vehicles hazardous materials signage said the tanker was full of hexene, a colorless gas that is considered highly flammable. At least a dozen Jacksonville Fire-Rescue units were called to the scene, including its hazardous materials team. News4Jax was told that another tanker would be brought in to offload the gas, but once firefighters determined the tanker was full of a cleaning product, that will not be necessary. Just after noon, two of three eastbound lanes were reopened, although the exit to I-295 remained closed to traffic until the tanker was righted and the scene cleared.
